Ok this question is for anyone who applied for a K-1 Visa for Havana, Cuba because it works different in Cuba.

I received my I-129F approval letter, then I received the letter from NVC with the case number, I called the 1-800 number and scheduled my fiance's appointment and its July 7, 2008. Now if I call the NVC they say I don't have an appt scheduled and my fiance has not received anything in the mail or been contacted. Am I missing something?? I have read other posts regarding the IV bill fee being received and package 3 being received, I don't have any of that.

I downloaded the forms he needs online and we have everything done, can someone please give me advice or give me some insight into the process because I'm worried we did something wrong. THanks

This is not a problem that NVC does not have an interview scheduled because it is not with them anyway. The interview is at the US Interest Section In Habana, so as long as the consulate their has record of your interview then great. The 1-800 number is a line in the US for Cuban family to schedule appointments for their family (fiance included) to have interviews in Habana to be able to come here (whether that is a visit or to immigrate into the US). Package 3 is something your SO in Cuba will receive and must have before the interview. What I had to do was call the office in Habana to have my then fiance pick up packet 3 with all the paperwork for the interview (the actual fiance visa) and then once he got that I was able to call to schedule an interview date. He never would have got packet 3 because he never received the supposed telegram saying to pick it up, so good thing I called... but looks like you did it differently. I know others who have had similar problems, but eventually it all works out. Well, best of luck to you!

I agree that if the Appt Service Center gave you an interview date and number, don't worry too much about what the NVC says. However, I would try to make sure your fiance is able to pick up his packet. It seems there are reports of the Consulate staff wanting the exact same forms given in the packet filed out at the interview (though this seems ridiculous; we plan to bring our lawyer-prepared forms and have the ones in the original packet with us in case that is what they want at the time). Also, there may be items in the packet that are not available elsewhere, such as the 'order' for the medical exam.

You might try emailing or faxing the USINT to ask when your fiance can pick up his packet. It may take 4 or 5 weeks after you receive your 2nd NOA before USINT tries to contact your fiance. In our case, USINT called and sent a telegram to Osvaldo's local post office in order to contact him. But had he not known someone who worked in the post office, I'm not sure the message would have ever reached him. Has your fiance been checking for messages at his post office?

my initial steps were the same as you.

the 800 number called for the appointment -- correct, that is not the NVC you talked to, it was direct to Havana, so I'd feel secure about that. you could always pay another $11 and call back to confirm.

then...i was told that Havana does not send notice that the packet is ready to be picked up, other people have said it depends on the location. my bf lives in Alamar and received (I think) a telegram telling him to go pick up his packet. maybe it was a letter he received, but he did receive some notice that he could go pick it up, and his name then was on a list admitting him to the embassy. there is a long line of cubans trying to get in, so if his name is on the list it's a lot faster.

it had DS 230 part 1 and 2; 156, 156K and 157 (they no longer call it part 3 and part 4)

you also should provide the affidavit of support (i forget the number for that form, but you can google it) the form and supporting documents, like your income, pay stubs, perhaps tax forms last 3 years, bank accounts. whatever would be convincing that you can support him / her as he arrives and gets up to speed.

it also has the list of hospitals where he can get the medical exam

seems like there was one other page of information (not a form)

oh yes, the "cover page" to all of this was a letter, and that said he should bring this letter to the appointment/interview. kind of like a reservation for the appointment, although it doesn't state the time and date of the interview, because that is what you made over the phone.

then of course you should bring some "proof of relationship" like emails, photos, letters, etc.

and perhaps an updated (new date) letter of intent (that you continue to support this petition and still intend to marry within 90 days)

I would agree and reiterate that you can't sit and wait for anybody to contact you. You have to be proactive and call/fax/email them to find out the status. I even went myself to the USINT in Havana; and they told me they had no records of the package. Thinking this was strange, I called again and it was actually there- they had the maiden name on file mixed up; that's why they could not find it...(long story..) The personnel there are extremely helpful and nice though.

Also, in the end we did not pick up the forms from packet 3. Since my fiancee lives out of town; I was told I could just download the forms, print them out and take them all filled out on the day of the interview...just double check you have the right ones, because people make mistakes with that...

I wasn't planning on being there since there is so many costs already in getting him here, and I would have to go through a 3rd country since I was there last November and I went through Miami. I wouldn't want that causing an issue since I would technically be going "illegally"
