If I phone the NVC and use their automated information line to see if they have received my K1 petition, will it tell me if they have received it or should I talk to an operator? I'm hearing from some people that I should actually talk to someone.

As petitions for K visas are only generally at NVC for a short pit stop, information is not available on the automated system and you must speak to an operator.
