I was married to a US citizen 2 1/2 years ago ( [October 14, 2005). My husband went back to the US and applied for an I-130 Spouse visa in September, 26, 2006 to petition me. I was sent USCIS packets . I complied with all the requirements, medical exam and interview and finally last February 21, 2008, I received my passport with a temporary I-551 STAMPED in one of the pages.

I am just wondering why I was given a TEMPORARY PERMANENT RESIDENCE VISA (I-551) but on a CONDITIONAL STATUS which makes me feel so lost as to what I will do when I set foot for the first time in the US.

With the information that I have gathered on the net I still have to file for the removal of of my conditional status but in my opinion, my being married for more than 2 years excludes me from being awarded a conditional.

Do I have to follow that order? Please also update me as to what I must do when I go to the US anytime this June, 2008?

Thanks!

Eleadan

Temporary only means that your passport can act as a green-card until you get the official one in the mail. It does not mean there are conditions attached to it.

In your case you will be considered to be IR-1 due to being married for more than 2 years before being approved and issued a green-card. The card that results is a 10 year un-conditional one, with NO Conditions to remove 2 years later that is, NO I-751 needed to be filed 2 years after getting the green-card.
