Moving back to Ireland :)

We have decided that we both really want to settle permanently back in Ireland. We do love it here in Columbus and I have settled in much better than I imagined, but we both miss Ireland more than we love living here. Rob’s already secured a job and luckily I never sold my little bean can of a car, so we’ll have that to get us from A to B until we can get something sturdier! We'll be moving to Cork, which is about an hours drive from where we lived in Limerick and where my family live in Co. Clare. If any of you have ever been to Cork, you'll know it's an absolute gem and we are really excited!!

Although we are moving back to Ireland, we do not regret for one minute moving to the U.S. I think going through this whole visa process made us a much stronger couple and that’s something we’ll have no matter where we live. Some may say; why the heck did ye go through the whole K-1 and AOS if ye were going to move back? Rob lived in Ireland for 2+ years, and we both decided that we needed to know how we would like living in America. And, we found out that we prefer the Irish lifestyle. This is in no way meant as a negative on the American lifestyle. There is just a draw to Ireland that we find hard to ignore. We also have lots of friends there and my family too, whom Rob gets on great with…He said he can’t wait to go for a pint with Dad ;)

I am not going to ask the question you probably expect…How do I hold onto my Green Card? This is a permanent move for us and we are not moving across any more continents after this move! I have looked into relinquishing my Green Card and status, and will fill out form I-407 so everything is done right. I guess I just need to know if I will need to go to the Embassy in Dublin for a visitor’s visa when visiting Rob’s family in the future, or can I use the VWP?

Enjoy your future together in Ireland.

I've only been there once but I loved it.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Congratulations, I will hope for the best for you in your move! :)

You can use the VWP to visit Rob's family (so long as the visit is 90 days or less).

Best wishes!!!

Wow, well best of luck to you Mand! Are you going to get there in time for your baby, or will it be born in Ireland?

And what's the process for your hubby?

We'll be there in about 4 weeks!!!! We don't wait around, so I'll be there for the majority of the pregnancy...now to find a Doctor in Cork pronto!!

Rob's got an Irish work authorization already, but even if he didn't, all we have to do is show up our local Garda (police) station together with our passports and marriage cert. They give him a Permanent Resident card that day and that's it!!!

Dear Mand,

Lucky you to come back to Ireland.

I arrived to Ireland for 5 weeks for a university programm and ended up staying 5 years.

I really love the Irish lifestyle.

Also Cork is a really nice city.

And as county Clare is not so far away you can visit oyur family from times to times.

My husband and I are talking about living in Europe but not right away.

Best of luck to you in Ireland... And give all my Irish love to Ireland for me.

Rejane
