You must be seeing something I'm not here.

"Stay the course" meant do nothing, and indeed we did do nothing - until political pressure brought about the troop surge (which the administration initially resisted).

"Culture of life" - well that's just rubbish isn't it. How have they delivered on it - Is abortion illegal? Did the government save the life of Terry Schiavo - moreover, did they take steps to prevent similar situations in the future?

The only thing the govt has achieved in that vein - is the partial ban on stem cell research (which is hardly a "culture of life" for the patients who stand to benefit from it) or the Govts HIV/AIDS package to the 3rd world - but even that is loaded with faith-based initiatives that undermine the good that it is doing.

Congress and the house of reps are democrats. Even though everyone makes it out that GWB can do as he pleases this is clearly not the case without the approval of the democrat controlled congress. It's not a parliamentary system..

Who have controlled Congress for less than 2 years out of the 8 years GWB has been in charge. Also - GWB has a veto pen!

Someone needs to start a Boo-Yah drinking game where when the quality of life of Syndey and Melbourne are brought up you have to take shot.

Maybe chug-a-lug with "no wonder the kids are so screwed up" or "what are they teaching in schools?"

How about, Milton Bradley's "Wild Tangent" - the game that everyone's talking about?

Sally: Yesterday, we found an orphaned puppy on our doorstep.

Bobby: Well, that's because a liberal was born today. (5 points)

Sally: Huh? The puppy had a note attached, "Please take care of me."

Bobby: That's the problem with liberals, they expect others to take care of their messes. (5 points)

(In this scenario, Bobby is leading Sally, 10 points to zero. The first player to reach 100 gets to sound the Wild Tangent buzzer.)

I made the mistake of thinking you actually had something to say. Now I know you just pull #### out of your ###. Remind of someone I worked with who never watched the news, never read the paper etc yet had an opinion on everything.

Perhaps you shouldn't hit so close to home - or indeed throw those stones from your glass house. Mr MA in Economics.

Yes coming from the person who clearly pulls facts out of their ###. It is not the first time I have caught you doing this.

yet you so seldom disprove them. why is that?

Boo-Yah - your experience with this country is so limited as is your knowledge of its history and government and yet you have so many opinions on it.

Kind of sounds like this friend of yours?

No. I don't think those things amount to "excuse". I do however think they need to be understood (rather than ignored) for progress to be made.

Besides I'm just addressing your point - in reply to mine - that the reason the govt has not made much progress on either of those sloganised issues (though you claimed that they have made progress) has something to do with the Democratic control of Congress. Both of those issues were already 6 years old by the time the Democrats came on the scene.

So what steps are they taking to correct this in 2008. You use the same logic with slavery and oppression. Where you beat on and on and on about the past but fail to provide any remedies, set any benchmarks or hold anyone accountable in 2008.; or for the future.

Not friend. But dumb foolish ####### at work.

Shouldn't you be installing solar panels.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I never said I had a solution with the country's economic and social woes. And (unlike you) I don't pretend to either.

Where are your solutions, benchmarks and accountability?

So far your idea of a solution is to suggest that poor and/or oppressed should hop on a boat back to where they came from; and that the starving should just move to where the food is.

Look at your posts. Either a rebuttal or an excuse.

Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. :)

You claim to have an MA in economics yet time and again demonstrate a complete lack of knowledge in the subject.

But of course, in world university rankings, Australia only has one school in the top 100, and it's only number 47. Maybe it's your inferior Australian education, since rankings are so important. ;)

And as usual you look at a post, word for word, and then interpret it in a way that suits your opinion..

Not my question.

So what you're saying is that you don't rebut or make excuses?

Must be the economics MA.

Well there wasn't much to work with - what should I do with that highly intellectual statement?

What does a degree have to do with anything. I am not the one who brings it up again and again. You guys have nothing else to say but use personal attacks.
