It's a slogan, not a campaign platform. I would have thought a smart guy like you would have known the difference.

Have you missed the point of the initial thread. If someone cannot fix up their own city how can they fix an entire country. I don't care if they are black, white, female, had a sex change, conservative, dumb ### liberal etc. The same question still stands..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

You're joking of course...

I mean what was with that whole "culture of life" stuff a few years ago?

Or the countless soundbites on the Iraq war.

Yes they said they would stay the course and have done so.. :star:

Yes they believe in Culture of life and have stuck by it. :star:

What part of that do you not understand? The don't go promising to eradicate poverty, for example, yet fail to actually deliver like other parties.

You must be seeing something I'm not here.

"Stay the course" meant do nothing, and indeed we did do nothing - until political pressure brought about the troop surge (which the administration initially resisted).

"Culture of life" - well that's just rubbish isn't it. How have they delivered on it - Is abortion illegal? Did the government save the life of Terry Schiavo - moreover, did they take steps to prevent similar situations in the future?

The only thing the govt has achieved in that vein - is the partial ban on stem cell research (which is hardly a "culture of life" for the patients who stand to benefit from it) or the Govts HIV/AIDS package to the 3rd world - but even that is loaded with faith-based initiatives that undermine the good that it is doing.

And what is we need change. A moronic saying for a fool to follow.

So do we or do we not need change?

It depends on what you want changed. It's like Obama's campaign slogan. There are some things I like about America and want left alone and there are other things I would like changed. My fear is what they want changed is what I like and visa-versa.

I don't want my taxes raised either, Gary :)

I am not a big Obama fan and yet somehow I am not disappointed that he hasn't magically transformed Chicago all on his own. I don't expect he'll magically transform the US either, nor do I think McCain or Clinton have these magic powers.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Congress and the house of reps are democrats. Even though everyone makes it out that GWB can do as he pleases this is clearly not the case without the approval of the democrat controlled congress. It's not a parliamentary system..

They are now - but who was running things in the administration's first term and a half?

Why did they lose control of the chambers?

Someone needs to start a Boo-Yah drinking game where when the quality of life of Syndey and Melbourne are brought up you have to take shot.

Yeah we'll all sound like carolsmarc.

We need to look at 2008. Even I, with my limited knowledge of the US, know that the president does not call #### without the approval of the US congress and house of representatives. What the hell are the teaching in schools here. Yet he is the scapegoat.

Whereas the Mayors, Governors etc are responsible for their cities. They are the ones who can do something about the sorry ### state of their dilapidated 3rd world looking cities. Just look at Katrina were FEMA and Bush, of all people, was blamed yet the stupid Mayor slipped under the radar. And was actually voted in again. morons..

Well you're blaming a Congress that's been in office for what roughly 2 years if that. Were things really that great during the preceding years - they had longer to fix things than the current lot have had? Plus you're ignoring the presidential veto.

Who have controlled Congress for less than 2 years out of the 8 years GWB has been in charge. Also - GWB has a veto pen!

Maybe chug-a-lug with "no wonder the kids are so screwed up" or "what are they teaching in schools?"

Sure thing. Do you not see a pattern of excuses. Probably not actually.

Starting from black poverty etc. You always have some sort of excuse lined up or somebody else to blame. Says a lot about your style of thinking

Yes coming from the person who clearly pulls facts out of their ###. It is not the first time I have caught you doing this.

No. I don't think those things amount to "excuse". I do however think they need to be understood (rather than ignored) for progress to be made.

Besides I'm just addressing your point - in reply to mine - that the reason the govt has not made much progress on either of those sloganised issues (though you claimed that they have made progress) has something to do with the Democratic control of Congress. Both of those issues were already 6 years old by the time the Democrats came on the scene.

yet you so seldom disprove them. why is that?

I made the mistake of thinking you actually had something to say. Now I know you just pull #### out of your ###. Remind of someone I worked with who never watched the news, never read the paper etc yet had an opinion on everything.
