i have been using vista since last summer and I have had no real problems with it...

the one thing that bugged me was that stupid permission thing that would pop up all the time but someone told me how to shut that off...

Seriously, what's all the fuss about?

I have been wondering this myself.. people just say they don't like it but don't really give reasons as to why they don't like it :P

The interface is only one of the problems. Yes, everything has been gratuitously and illogically moved around. There was no real philosophy put into the interface, they just wanted to make it look pretty. Sit down and use a Mac sometime and you will see exactly what I'm talking about. OS X (the Mac OS) was carefuly designed from the ground up to be intuitive. Vista wasn't so much designed as ordained by committee.

But the biggest problem with Vista is that it's simply a resource hog. Walk away from your computer sometime with no applications running. Come back in an hour and listen to your disk drive churning. And I don't mean a little click here and there. I mean heavy duty IO. What is it doing? I don't know. I have dual-core pentiums, 8GB memory, and a 500GB hard drive. My Vista machine is anything but resource starved. And yet it thrashes away continuously. (no, it's not antivirus or anything else. I shut all that down looking for what the issue might be, and it's a brand new installation, no shareware, etc.)

There's something wrong with an operating system that requires a minimum of 2GB memory just to run the OS. Especially when you consider that it's only job in life is to run your spreadsheets and games and browser.

Ditto this for my hubby, especially the memory hog part.

my computer only has 1 GB of memory and 160 GB hard-drive and I have no problems with Vista being a resource hog... my computer runs super fast..

We are a day or two away from experiencing the wonders of Vista! I don't anticipating completely wiping it off my hard drive when the new computer arrives, but I will be setting it up to dual boot along with XP, and XP will also get the lions share of the hard drive space!

From all I hear, Vista is fine if you have the hardware to handle it, and our new computer should be up to the task.

It's a Windows-ized version of OS-X. It's made for idiots. Unfortunately, people who aren't idiots can't find anything with Vista.

I'm an IT guy. I can set up an XP computer on our network in about 2 minutes. It took me 15 minutes on Vista. NOTHING is in a place that makes sense. But it's pretty and flashy!

As I mentioned earlier..... Vista blows goats.

If it's made for idiots why don't you like it I.T. guy?

LOL I think VJ may be about to see its very first computer flame war!!

No... because I honestly don't give a sh!t.

This person is obviously the sort of person that Vista was designed for.... someone who would gladly get on their knees for Bill Gates. I use Windows. But I've also used pretty much every other operating system that there is. I KNOW that Windows sucks, but I need it for many of my applications.

As mox mentioned.... any OS that requires 2GB of memory MINIMUM is seriously bloated. I have a Linux machine that has 512MB of memory but is faster than a Vista machine. Hell, I have an old iMac (the grey Digital Video version) with 256MB of memory and a 400MHz processor that is probably faster than a new Dell or HP with Vista.

I had a Linux server that was on - without a single reboot - for 72 weeks. Try that with a Windows machine.

O.K. That's the answer I was looking for. I'm afraid to even touch a Mac right now (really can't afford it).

Sorry Troll. I reserve my internet sparring for those whom I actually feel something for, whether it be love or hate. Usually. Sometimes I just rant at random people. Hmmm....Actually, that's what I usually do, isn't it?

Just on the issue of 3rd party software....Microsoft doesn't want them running on the OS without explicit permission (meaniing, they want to be paid licensing fees from every developer out there)...and that sucks monkey balls. You shouldn't need Microsoft's permission to work in tandem with their OS, in my opinion.
