Hello everyone! I am posted a few days ago regarding my AOS.But with some problems covered in filing for that, i am not sure if we can do that the soonest possible way. For now, I am feeling so helpless because I dont know what to do. I wanted to obtain ID's like SSN & Drivers License even State ID if i can.

So my option is, If its possible or not..IS IT OKEY FOR ME TO APPLY FOR EAD FOR AWHILE? and we will submit adjustment of status later? Is it possible or not? If it is, how much will it cost for me to to process for EAD? and how much it will cost for my adjustment later?...

I dont know what else to do, I need to work because I have my son here with me and I dont want to keep waiting & waiting everyday for nothing..I dont want to depend my husband since we dont have much savings *sad* Hope anybody can lighten me up for my situation...Thnxs & God bless...

You can apply for a Social Security Number before you file for AOS as per the guides here on VJ - some people have applied for this before they got married and some people after they got married - the important thing is to be clear that you are entitled to it (print off and take the information with you) and you'll at least have that much very quickly.

I haven't seen your other post about why there is a hold-up with applying for AOS but there is no point in applying for a temporary EAD as it takes such a long time to process that it would be worthless by the time you got it. I hope you are able to apply for AOS soon and that all goes smoothly for you!

yes dear, you go get your SSN now, it's a simple procedure and you just have to bring your passport. There was i file i brought to the SSN office regarding K-1 visa holders being allowed to work, its at the SSN website but i think you can search for it here at the VJ site. Its a good thing to bring to the office because even SSN personnel didnt know that you can apply for SSN already. i showed her the copy of the file and she thanked me for giving her new information. I got my SSN card a few days later with the mark "not valid without INS authorization"

i didnt need my EAD when i applied for a job because K-1 visa holders HAVE PERMISSION TO WORK FROM INS. it is just not in our passport or visa. i have a little bit of problem with our human resources here and they have to forward my job application to somebody in our university who had experience with our situation. then this person processing my application just read a handbook and said im allowed to work as long as i get married within 90 days and that i should tell them if my AOS has already been received by the INS because they took note of my I-94 expiration date. So, you dont actually need your EAD to get a job.

i know its hard to be jobless here in your first few months but you dont have to be. you can work as long as the people in your human resource department know what they are doing and that they are reading their handbooks very well..

They do not need to read their handbooks very well, they need to be reading the requirements for the I-9 very well. Nothing a K1 without an EAD (or the ead stamp) satisfies the requirement. You do need an EAD to work.
