Yahoo & Microsoft Have Talked Partnering, Merging

I was talking with Kevin Delaney of the Wall Street Journal on Monday about search things in general and mentioned the sense it makes for Microsoft and Yahoo to get together. Microsoft is behind with the core search technology. Yahoo's been struggling to upgrade its paid search service. Let's get these two kids together! And today in the Wall Street Journal, it turns out that there's apparently a faction at Microsoft that wants to do just that.

Kevin and colleague Robert Guth write of there being two factions within Microsoft -- the "let's built it ourselves" group that has been in control so far and the "let's acquire" group apparently led by Microsoft senior vice president Hank Vigil.

If this possible merger turns out to be at all similar to previous companies Microsoft has swallowed, they're trying to develop a monopoly and bury any and all competition.

Wouldn't be surprised if this merger went by the monopolies commission.

microsoft is not doing anything that is wrong(i mean its wrong morally, i dont support all their endevours). But ANY company who is complaining now against microsoft would do the exact same thing to burn the competition. All this talk about monopoly is bogus.

That is true.

However, a free market economy, if it is to function as desired, requires free and fair competition. That is precisely why we have anti-trust laws.

Well I can't stand Yahoo... I do not use their messenger at all... the last time I upgraded it I had such massive problems the damned thing took over my puter and I had to reformat my hdd thanks to the inability to reverse all that it did... now if I want to log in to yahoo I use miranda... neat little software that is.

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

Conditional Green Card dated 24th October 2007

I-751 posted on 6th August 2009

Received on 7th August 2009 in VT
