Hi everybody! I'd like to say that it's so uplifting to see all of these success stories-it makes us know that the wait for our future is worth fighting for! :thumbs:

I have all of the documents saved to my computer, and plan on filing AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, but I am wondering if it helps in any way to get assistance from someone who specializes in Immigrant document preparation, like we have seen advertised on the Internet.

Our biggest fear is missing one small step and getting denied and having to start all over again. The wait is hard enough as it is!

Like I said, we are in the very beginning of this long journey. Any advice is helpful. Thanks so much!

There is a lot of really good information here that it makes it really unnecessary to use a lawyer, especially if you have a pretty straight forward case.

If you make a mistake or they require extra information they will send you an RFE and you won't have to start over, just possibly get delayed a month or so.

As others here will tell you, the guides at this site, together with careful preparation by yourself should be more that sufficient to get through this process without the need to shell out cash for someone else to prepare the documents for you. There are more than a few horror stories here of people who spent the cash, only to have their attorney botch the filing process.

That being said, if you have a complicated case for some reason, or feel uncomfortable doing the paperwork yourself then you could go that route.

If you have a straightforward case, study the guides here, download the latest forms from USCIS and go for it! And of course, quadruple check everything. A lot of folks run the list of documents they intend to file on here to have a few extra eyes double check if you forgot anything. Then copy everything, hard copy. Scan it if you can. I was wondering the same thing when I started out, and I even emailed an immigration lawyer and her prices were just atrocious... so I decided to follow the guides on the site to a T and everything worked out okay so far. But then again my case is really straight forward, nothing complicated.

I remember thinking those exact same things when we started our paperwork for the k1 visa and look at us now. My husband is now in the U.S. with me and he is now a permanent resident. All of the paperwork was prepared by ME, of course will the help of all the awesome VJ people. You will really find everything you need in this site, it's great. It saved us a TON of money because we did not need any lawyer at all.

i had the same question also.. and actuallY met with a couple lawYers. but i did it mYself. i just sent an abundance of proof .. i think mY packet was over 100 pages .. haha. and i work more than full time. it was a lot of work though.. . it has been almost a month since i sent it .. we will see. mY advice would be.. take Your time. trY to anYwaY. and re-read everYthing after u are finished.. then re-read it again. a few times. good luck. :)
