The thing is......the whole purpose of filing a K-1 is to get married when your SO gets to the US. Why would it ever be a bad thing to marry whenever you felt like it? The only bad thing is to NOT get married in that 90 day window. Otherwise, it's all up to preference as to when you do it.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

It seems to me to get married ASAP. Reason is you can't file for AOS until you get married. If you do it right, you will have your wedding planned before the visa interview, because for many countries, the K1 visa is issued within days or weeks of the interview (assuming you get it).

I don't agree with applying for the SSN as soon as your SO arrives because then after the wedding you might have to change the person's last name, possibly at additonal cost. I am going to wait until after the wedding to apply for the SSN.

Maybe it depends where you will get married, but I found out the other day that where I live, they only need a passport of the foreigner (along with a driver's license at least for me, the American) to apply for the marriage license. I can get married that same day assuming I have someone with the capacity to marry present and a witness or two.

I have a three day waiting period but we will apply for the license the day he arrives or the day after. The sooner we are married the sooner he can start working.

We waited several months after deciding we were in love to file and it will be two years in June since we filed. Yes living together will be hard at first, he has never been married and I have been alone for ten years, but we can make it work. Sometimes I even suggest he might want to rent the apartment upstairs and just come to visit a few nights a week.

The sooner the better, we have waited too long already.

Nick and I are getting married probably within 2 weeks of me getting there...

I want to be able to work asap and to do that I need work authorization and you can't get that without being married and filing for AOS so...yeah...

Some people get married the same day they enter...nothing wrong with that at all!!! :star:
