Forgive me for my inelegant use of English, I'm still in a slightly agitated state. :crying:

Quick recap, on March 11 Pop gets a phone call from MTL telling him to hurry up ("what are you waiting for a personal invitation, the second coming, etc."), he's out of AP and he should send in his passport with all alacity as his police certificates are going to expire. "Thumbs up, you're approved. Just giving you a heads-up," says the disembodied, enthusiastic voice on the phone. So we wait for a confirmatory letter and the passport is sent out w/o an Expresspost envelope (they only wanted the passport) and on March 18 it arrives in MTL. Pop is a nervous about his passport being sent off to the Mandarins in the bowels of the Consulate General of the United States of America at Montreal, but I reassure him that it is OK using some palliative cliches and the odd platitude. We wait a week and now Pop is getting rather animated (for him anyways  ), "I do not like this Uncle Sam I am, issue my visa and forego the green eggs and ham." So I send an e-mail and the response is less than inspiring. Pop is still in AP. I am a touch perplexed, I mean to say, #######???? Before I inveigh in a rather acrimonious manner (probably something to do with one who copulates with a maternal unit or words to that effect), I send an e-mail asking for clarification and "might take another week," is the quotidian response. Exasperated and strongly suppressing an atavistic urge to commit a wanton of act violence or hurl invectives, I send yet another e-mail on March 31, this time with the letter of approval from the Chief of the IV Unit at MTL attached. I wait for a response and wait some more. No response is forthcoming, not even the terse ones that usually arrive within 24-48 hours. Visions of Patel (8 years in AP before a writ of mandamus is granted by the Federal Court) dance in my head. Finally, on Friday April 4, a knock on the door; it's the letter carrier with a large envelope from Montreal. I wonder what it could be. :innocent: Pop's visa, ah shucks, they shouldn't have. :bonk: Mumsie can now return to being the fun-loving Mumsie and not the irascible, if somewhat verbose, cynic that dealing with USCIS turns him into. :innocent:

What a pain in the butt!! Glad he finally has the visa

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Okay, so I read the title and the first part of the content and I am ready to break "parole" and go to Montreal and kick some butt! as I believe this is not going to turn out in the end of this post.

And lo-and-behold, it is all good.

Late, but good.

Phew.

I mean, it has been awhile since I put anyone on the hospital!

And honestly I haven't been practicing as of late.

So, again, sweet Mumsie, your flowery (it is so early and I am lacking the truly appropriate word here) vocabulary has taken the proverbial cake...and eaten it!

Bahaha!

I'm so happy for your family that it is finally wrapped up and in the bag.

Bon voyage to papa!!!

Wow! Either it's way early for me or I need to take a night class to increase my vocabulary. I think you taught me at least 5 new words today!

I'm so glad it all ended well. I got pretty fired up when I read that they said he was still in AP AFTER he sends his passport in. That would have sent me over the edge!! Thank goodness and congrats to him finally. (i know you don't know me but i read your review back when...it's so cool to see the follow up and it ended well)

Firstly, thanks on the congratulatory messages to all who have posted and those who will. My sister is serving hot caffeinated beverages to hyperactive children right now so I'm sure she'll post as soon she is able or she manages to restrain the brats or pry them off the ceiling. I am sorry to Spirit and CBR (900? nice bike), about the vocabulary. It slips out from time to time. I was most definitely upset with the behaviour of the Consular staff. Must plausible deniability even extend to the immigration process, one hand really doesn't know what the other one is doing. :crying: Pop is still figuring out when he will activate, he's torn between waiting until the last day or just doing it now and flying down to make arrangements with bro'. Is it possible to visit without activating his IV or should he activate and then get an exit permit? Any ideas?

Kimmbo, wow an "A," les parents will be so proud. The first song that popped into my head was the Ballad of John & Yoko and I can't get it out of my head either.

I JUST HOPE NOBODY ELSE HAS TO DEAL WITH THE SAME KIND OF NONSENSE! :ranting:
