John McCain leads Obama 47% to 44%, leads Clinton 47% to 42%

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday show John McCain leading Barack Obama 47% to 44%. He leads Hillary Clinton 47% to 42% (see recent daily results). Among unaffiliated voters, McCain leads Clinton by six points and Obama by one. Among men, McCain leads Clinton by twenty-one and Obama by eleven. Among women, Clinton leads McCain by eight and Obama leads by three. Daily tracking results are updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time.

Among voters nationwide, McCain is now viewed favorably by 56% and unfavorably by 41%. Obama’s reviews are 52% favorable and 46% unfavorable. For Clinton, those numbers are 45% favorable, 52% unfavorable.

The Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power Calculator shows the Electoral College race remains a Toss-Up. Democrats lead in states with 190 Electoral Votes while the GOP has the advantage in states with 189. When “leaners” are added, the Democrats lead 243 to 240 (see summary of recent state-by-state results).

And yet, there's hope. It seems that even the Democrats are able to unite behind a candidate - and there's one of the two continously gaining ground. Poll shows 10-point lead for Obama, increasingly negative view of Clinton

Please elaborate for I'm thinking that you're one of those bamabots that have a superficial "man crush" on him.

Polls are interesting, but at this point, it does not matter. It will make much more sense once there is a nominee from Democratic party. The poll number can be different at that time. No question, McCain will be a strong candidate.

Painting McCain as Bush’s twin will obviously be central to the Democrats’ strategy this fall regardless of whether Obama or Clinton wins the nomination. As Hart notes, “McCain’s single greatest weakness is that many voters believe he will be part and parcel of the policies that Bush has promulgated.” Podhorzer, for his part, is already at it, having recently launched a union-financed effort designed to label him a “Bush McClone.”

No sane person would assume that such efforts will be a slam-dunk, given that McCain’s media-amplified image runs counter to the notion that he’s a clone of anyone, let alone 43. “McCain has that reformist, maverick history that people identify him with,” says Bush’s former media guru Mark McKinnon, who now plays the same role for McCain. “They know he’s not a typical Republican and has had his issues with the president over time, so they don’t see him as in bed with the president or the Republican Party that they believe has in recent years come to represent the status quo.”

The evidence buttressing McKinnon’s assertion isn’t hard to locate. Among independent voters, according to Gallup, McCain leads Obama by a spread of 42-29 and Clinton by 48-23. And an even more striking sign of his crossover appeal was cited by Karl Rove in a speech he gave last month in Washington. “About twice as many Democrats support McCain as Republicans support Obama, and about three times as many Democrats support McCain as Republicans support Clinton,” Rove said. “The media is all wired up about these ‘Obamacans’ … but the real story of this election is the ‘McCainocrats.’

And yet to some he will always be McSame. Anyone that thinks McCain is a Bush clone hasn't paid attention over the last 10 years.

The support from the dems for McCain if their favorite isn't given the nomination speaks volumes. Bush is a right to far right person. McCain is a centrest beyond any doubt. Only the hard left sees him as a righty.
