I am an early march 2008 filer and just called USCIS out of curiosity today to feel what the expected approval time is for the I-130. They gave me a number that ruined my weekend. They said on average it takes about 9 months for applications to get approved!:crying:

####### is going on? It means it will take a year from my wifey to get here. I am absolutely shattered to hear this...

This is atrocious...USC's spouses shouldn't be kept apart for this long unless the situation warrants.

To boot, our case is one of the simpler ones that they will receive!

Somebody posts some good news to make my weekend go any better... :(

You don't need to ruin your weekend. Many get approval much sooner than what you had been told today. Just let the process run itself and continue to be patient. Take it easy.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

I don't think it's going to take 9 months. I think very few extreme cases take that long. If you look at the timelines here, it is taking an average of 5-6 months and that was due to the influx of applications last year.

If you look on the website, they are currently at 6 months but a lot of people get approved before that. Don't be discouraged, you may be one of the ones that gets approved in less time.

I'm a member of another forum also and there is a girl who got approved in 4 months!! So it possible.

Yeah, one thing to remember is you will LOSE YOUR MIND if you continue to call USCIS and rely on their timelines and dates...so stop doing it. Use VJ to get that information. USCIS will give you an outragoeus timeline just to ward you off from calling. As you can see on VJ its about 4-6 months to get approved and the times are getting even smaller. You just applied 1 month ago so I would pace myself if I were you....think August for an NOA2 so that if if happens to come earlier then you'll be thrilled, but you also won't drive yourself crazy expecting it earlier than need be.

Unlike eveyone else here... I think 9 months is correct for the VISA to be approved. Maybe everyone is talking about when it gets "approved" by USCIS. I filed in October and got "approved" in March, or about 5 months. BUT, that approval means very little to me, because now it has to sit at the NVC and then the embassy before my wife can come to the US. NVC has been taking ~2-3months, don't know about the embassy. That is pretty darn close to 9-months.

I hope yours goes faster, but you better buckle down for the long wait... :(

Thanks for your support guys. I guess I new to this stuff, so kinda frustrated, but I spent some time looking at the timelines for IR1/CR1 applicants and feel a bit better knowing that there is a chance to get approved before 9 months.

I am sure you all know the feeling of being away from your loved ones...I'll keep on posting any updates on this website.

CJ,

Sorry, but 9 months to a year is about right.

I am past the year mark. I filed in December 2006 and my husband's interview was December 2007.

After the interview, also expect to wait a few months for Administrative Processing. Once the application/interview is approved, they run a gamut of security checks with the DOS that can take 1 month to 6 months, to a year.

Unfortunately, people from countries like Pakistan, India, middle eastern countries, some african countries have to go through a more laborous wait in AP than those from places like Canada, Australia, NZ and european countries.

Don't lose hope. Just make a trip to India to see your sweetie.

(PS...my first husband was a Tibetan living in India (I lived in India) and back in the 1990's it still took on average a year to process.)
