What does a "touch" mean?

Hi Everyone!

I joined VJ a few weeks ago and love it! I have enjoyed looking at your timelines and comparing them to mine. We sent in our I-130 January 22, 2008 and got NOA1 on Febraury 13, 2008.

As I was looking at some of your timelines, I noticed that some of you had marked "touched" dates. What are those? What does it mean to have your petition touched? And how do you know if it's been touched? On the USCIS website, I have been tracking my case and when I put in my reeipt number, it says that the CSC has received our petition and issued a receipt notice. It doesn't say anything about being touched. Should I be concerned??

1/22/08- Mailed I-130 to Chicago lockbox

2/13/08- NOA1

5/29/08- Touched (changed address online)

5/30/08- Touched

6/04/08- Touched

6/08/08- APPROVED! NOA2 by mail (never showed up online!)

6/16/08- NVC Recieved, Case Number Assigned

6/24/08- Called NVC to get IIN, paid AOS fee online

6/24/08- Emailed DS3032 to NVC

6/30/08- NVC received AOS I-864EZ form

7/13/08- Paid IV fee online

7/15/08- Mailed DS-230

7/31/08- CASE COMPLETE!

8/14/08- Mailed to US Embassy in Dublin

8/19/08- Received Interview Date and Time

9/5/08- Ciaran's Interview!!!

9/9/08- CIARAN IS HERE!!! We will never have to be apart again :)

a touch is just that a mere )touch) someone looked at your file maybe, moved it from one desk to another, did something, watch and your date will change just not the status yet.....applications can go thru the whole process and never show a (touch) so dont worry

11/21/2008 CASE COMPLETE

01/16/2009 VISA IN HAND

My official "cut & paste" answer regarding "touching"...

"Touching" is meaningless and no big deal. Some petitions get 'touched" and others never do. It only indicates someone had your petition in their hands and scanned it into on the database. Other than proving your petition is not in the trash, it is nothing to get excited over. What truly counts are NOAs (yeah!) and RFEs (Boo!) :)

... but however if you wanna see whether your case is touched you have to create your own account and add your case to the portfolio. It has a column called " Last updated date" and when it changes you may know that the case is touched.

2oth Aug 2007 - Got married in SL

12th Sept 2007 - sent I 130 to CSC

5th Jan 2008 - Received NOA 1

16th May 2008 - Approved (NOA2 in 247 days )

18th May 2008 - Touch (Guess its been sent to USCIS mail room)

20th May 2008 - Received Hard Copy NOA2

I 129 F

7th Jan 2008 - Sent I 129 F to CSC

10th Jan 2008 - Received by CSC

18th Jan 2008 - Received NOA 1

16th May 2008 - Approved (NOA2 in 130 days )

18th May 2008 - Touch (Guess its been sent to USCIS mail room)

20th May 2008 - Received Hard Copy NOA2

21st May 2008 - Received Docs at NVC

xxx xxx xxxx - Case # generated

28th May 2008 - Sent to USEM Colombo

29th May 2008 - USEM Colombo confirmed receipt

Yes, you have to create your own account at USCIS website. Good luck to you!

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview
