Obama acknowledges, with no small irony, that he benefits from his race.

If he were white, he once bluntly noted, he would simply be one of nine freshmen senators, almost certainly without a multimillion-dollar book deal and a shred of celebrity.

Or would he have been elected at all?

Obama on his populist celebrity

So, what Geraldine said was racist? The candidate himself admits that he wouldn't have stood out, nor would he have had the celebrity given him by the ultra-liberal media, if he were not black!

It's intuitively obvious to anyone that's intellectually honest with themselves.

On Obama's experience, his judgement, and who he relies on for advice, he's quoted as saying.....

Q. Are you more confident now than a year ago?

A. I definitely still have stuff to learn, particularly when it comes to procedural matters. There is no real handbook for it. It's all on-the-job experience. But I came here confident that I could play ball in the big leagues. At the end of the year, I think I've shown that I can.

<sarcasm> in ONE YEAR!!

Q. How will you decide what happens next in your career?

A. I rely on good advice from people whose judgment I trust--my wife, who I trust deeply and I think has really good instincts about these things. But ultimately, I tend to rely on my own inner compass. Whenever I make good judgments, it's usually because I say to myself: "Can I be useful here?" As opposed to: "This is something I want."

<sarcasm> Hmm, and Rev. Wright, his "mentor"?

Q. Is the Senate the best place to fulfill political ambitions?

<sarcasm> apparently not!

A. I think it's very possible to have a Senate career here that is not particularly useful. And the minute I'm in the Senate and I'm just mailing it in, then I want people to tell me it's time to get out.

<sarcasm> Finally he speaks the truth as the good people from Illinois, myself included elected this deadbeat and got nothing useful out of him....

Q. Could anything make you change your mind about running for president in 2008?

A. I'm not going to speculate on that. You know, like what? It's speculation. Go ahead, next question.

Q. Have you ruled out running for another office before your term is up?

A. It is not something I anticipate doing.

<sarcasm> Well, we in Illinois wholeheartedly believe that he ran for U.S. Senate to run for the Presidency, and for no other reason.....

Obama's B.S.

It's 'a' factor - yes. Noone has denied this. The objection in relation to Geraldine Ferraro's comments is that it is "the" factor.

Note that she didn't claim that HC got to where she is in the campaign race simply because she is a woman. Why? Because that would be a rather unfair statement.

No, she got to where she is because she is married to an ex-president. Pick your non job related reasons for getting ahead.

What, where's the indignant liberals in this forum? You know, those that deny the intuitively obvious!

too much koolaid to see any truths. ;)

No, just caffeine! Those are his words, not mine. Just wondering where all those “indignant's” are that contributed to that recent (longish) thread whereby the prevalent argument was that Obama saw himself as just another candidate that's running for prez and that race, and as he put it, "Affirmitive Action", had nothing to do with it......

Seems he was whistling a different tune in 2005, eh?

I can't speak for anyone but me but as far as I am concerned, when I heard Obama give that speech at the 2004 Democratic convention, I was wondering why he wasn't running instead of that stiff John Kerry. I was hoping then that he'd make a run for the White House at some point because I think he's got the right stuff to provide a positive and energizing vision and to lead this country out of the morass the Bushies have run it into. I don't care what color his skin is.

I don't get why people insist on pushing the idiotic comments made by that Ferraro woman. Has it become fashionable to defend stupidity and blunt thinking?

Going by some of the comments in the "smoking thread", that falling off the cigarette wagon makes for an unsuitable candidate I'd certainly say so.

This race is getting so personal, it seems that some people are losing touch with reality and common sense.

You're right, you don't get it! She was beat up, and labeled a racist, for stating the simple truth. Many in this forum, in another thread carried on as though race wasn't an obvious reason for this guy’s meteoric rise to where he is today.

Here's his own admission that contrary to his own recent condemnations of the notion that his race wasn't an attribute that gave him an advantage over others with same, or similar credentials, to seek the presidency.

He was "engineered" by a very liberal media promotion that favored him because he's black.....and not for his credentials or experience.

Obvious to anyone who's not fooling themselves.

I bumped this to the top because it appears to be an issue with a user that hysterically used the "r" word.....

It's intuitively obvious to me, and Barack himself, that his Presidency is partly, or wholly based on his skin color.....

Oh my gawd, I said it!

Who is claiming that Obama's getting elected didn't have anything to do with his race?

But yet I'd like to see someone prove it was entirely because of his race, because that is what I call ignorant.

"Intuitively obvious" is precisely the problem. I don't share your intuition. Perhaps you can expound on your intuition?

Barack himself said it better than I....There's no resonable explanation for the press' infatuation with him after the Democratic convention. I recall a Barack then repeatedly refused to discuss the possibilty of running for President, being a newly elected junior Senator, but goaded and hounded by the press (with a clear infatuation for him) everyday in Chicagoland. Of course after promising his constituancy that he's there to serve them, he ran anyway. Ego.....

He never accomplished anything in the Senate other than to bide time and run for President.

What made him stand out from the pack? Barack alludes to the single attribute that explains such populism by the liberal press bestowed on a relatively unknown, unaccomplished, Politician from Illinois..........

To believe otherwise is intellectually dishonest.
