Good Luck to all those who are waiting for the interviews.

Congratulations to Richi...so what's so secret about a big eagle?!!?

and thanks for sharing the interview experience.

Its not the 'secret', it was plod being a jobsworth and questioning the reason for photgraphy!!

The eagle is very impressive sitting atop the building.

Still, got some decent photos out of it.

When you finally get your visa in the mail.. DONT open the envelope eager to see your passport.. its seperate in the plastic bag.. even tho it states clearly on it NOT to open.. I did.. oops. :crying:

I wasnt the first and doubt i will be the last.

Thankfully they are going to let me return it to be re sealed and not call me back there.

Dont fall into the same trap

On the waiting in line at the embassy thing.... here's the problem; my fiancé is disabled, and can walk but really cannot stand up for any period of time. We called at one point, and they said that there IS a lift, but, well, if we have to wait half an hour to get to talk to the man about the lift, it's going to be a huge problem.

I'm not sure what to do... the interview is at 10 (tomorrow, eek), so I'd considered getting there very early, but we already have to leave at 5:30 a.m. to get there, so not really sure.

Any thoughts really appreciated...

Nina, my interview was at 1030am last week. the line starts at around 830am and you're allowed in, in the order that you're inline, not by time of your interview, if that makes sense. There are also police officers who may be able to assist you. I was in the embassy building by about 850am.

So, when you get there, aim for around 8am-830 and there;s both police and embassy workers who, going by the way they dealt with tons of enquiries when I was there, will be more than happy to assist you. Dont worry though, they'll help you out.

there's assistance at the front of the line, so you'll be fine there and also once past the first security screening, Im sure someone will help you there too.

Wow, we're in Norwich, so to get there at 8, we'd have to leave... hm, maybe 4 a.m. Sigh! I was thinking that we should leave at 5:30, but maybe we really should leave at 4...

Was there somewhere to sit once you got in? I'm just so worried about this... not really about the interview part at all, just about the logistics of getting him there, and getting in, and all that...

I am in B'ham so I had to leave at 4am, just to make sure. Arrived in London at 630am. Walked to Oxford st, which is about 10 mins away and sat and had breakfast, though there is a Starbucks just a couple of streets away.

I did get there (london) too early, but I allowed time for getting lost and also to relax for a while.

Once you're into the building, you are sent up a small flight of stairs into a large room and greeted there by an official and take a seat there and wait for you number to be called. You're called up twice. The first time is to gie in you I-134, passport, police cert and birth cert, then, you're sent back to your seat and wait for the next part, which I guess is classed as the actual interview. This involves a couple of questions, finger printing, and the oath. Then its 'good luck on your travels' You then pay for the SMS visa service which is £9.50 and leave the building..

As for getting your fiancee in the building, Im quite positive someone will be there to assist you.

Well, it all turned out ok.

We got there at about 8:45... had actually aimed for 8, but the traffic was terrible. I talked to the guy with the clipboard and the girl who was sorting people out, and they seemed to have NO idea that there was some way to go in with a lift, but they said they'd figure it out by the time we got to the head of the line. So we stood in line, which is part of what I was really worried about, because just standing for long periods is hard for him at the moment, and then they put all the people with 8:30 appointments in another line... and then they put the 9:00 people in that line... and then they put the 9:30 people in that line... and by this time, I'm getting frustrated and worried and wondering what the point of getting there early was, BUT we're at the head of the line, and by this time, Michael's looking like he's going to die, so the clipboard guy calls someone and they take us around the back through the parking garage... no security that way, how weird... and we go sit down.

And then it was all pretty straightforward... in the interview bit, they asked the usual stuff, how did you meet and when, did you know your fiance had been married before, do you know her children, do your families know, have you visited her family... I think that's it.

THEN... and this is the only generally relevant part... they said, everything is fine, but these pictures are 3/4 face, and that's the way we used to want them, but now we need full-face so you have to go get more pictures. So we do... and I run them back up while Michael sits. This was not a big deal, but I swear that I've read in a LOT of places that you have to have your ear showing, and I didn't see anything different from that ever, so that's my words of advice about this... take two sets of pics, one each way, and then you have everything.

Really, all things considered, this all went about as smoothly as it could have, right from the beginning. Filed mid-October, done early March... filing through Vermont helps a lot, not that you get to pick... and so it's on to selling the house and getting on with the wedding plans, yay!

And I just want to thank everyone on this forum; it's been so tremendously helpful... and soothing, just to read everyone else's experiences when we were going crazy!
