There is a place I would gladly give to Mexico. San Franshitsco baby..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

still sensitive about the border change? like who? you think the average person knows when the hell that happened, or that it ever DID happen?! lol

:bonk:

Perhaps Mexicans that actually pay attention in school.

LOL

yea.. that's from history class.. they don't teach anything about the mex-am war in the US?

Yeah, something called Manifest Destiny. Now its just called protecting what we stole fair and square.

agree.. Santanna HAD to sell that part of the country, it wasn't like the Lousiana Purchase.. it was SELL or ELSE.. so.. no much of an option for a country with a destroyed army because of the previous european conflicts

Ahh... Vive La France! Nevertheless, I don't think that its a fair sale with a gun pointed at your head.

How the hell did THAT happen anyway? I've always been intrigued...

don't know either.. I know there was an excuse of expansion, but I've never gotten into it that much... also the monroe doctrine had to do with it, America for the Americans.. but other than that, I don't think there was a conflict that triggered it.. correct me if I'm wrong.. I know there was the invasion of US to the Chapultepec Castle in Mexico city, but i dont know if it was before or after the 'purchase'

That makes perfect sense. Africans were brought to this country in shackles, by force.

But for Mexicans to say it... implies they didn't willingly cross the border. Or worse, that they just lived their lives, didn't move, and one day BAM their homes were in Arizona instead.

Yeah, don't you know that's a no-no around here. Just wait, someone will find it and be offended. I'm not really that crazy about the word but I'm not going to jump you about it either. There have been numerous posts about not using that word. Where have you been?!?!?

It seems like everybody pays attention in school except American kids.My professor friends at work all sit around and laugh at how dumb the kids are.

Lets be fair now... the post was in reference to "the average person." I prefer to hold people accountable to higher standards. Maybe that's why many people go into teaching in the first place... and I did for a couple of years before returning to school myself. :D

As for professors that make fun of their kids... are these the same ones that need to consider a different line of work perhaps? :)

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

The PC way to say that is 'Mentally challenged." One of my co-workers who drives a school bus in the morning, got all freaked out one day when we were having coffee somewhere because one guy was all loud saying "retard this, retard that." And he just got up and yelled at the guy,"They're not retards, they're mentally challenged !"

i think, Texians (called like that back then) weren't very happy with the mexican government, which was broke and weak at that time because of the previous conflicts.. so they wanted to secede from Mexico, because most of the texians were americans, and they had different rights and rules when they moved to that area (Mexico invited US settlers to live to that area).. and that secession helped trigger the war, methinks..

that's alright brotha' i will lift the charges agains to for answering to my post with the r-word. I'm not sensitive.

Changing topics, I totally understand the reason why this expression is not valid BUT lets not forget that back in the 1800's before the US "bought" this land, it was populated by Mexicans and some anglos in TX. Some decided to stay after the purchase, some others decided to move out. Therefore, these small settlements that stayed behind can call themselves true natives to the state, even more than the anglos who came after NM, TX, CA etc... were added to the US. If this is the reasoning behind the expression, I totally agree with it and in reality, "they didn't jump the border, the border jumped them"

Maybe. But when a whole academic department comments on how dumb the kids are today,I just start to wonder...........
