Question about Social Security card and DEBTS...

I am adjusting my status right now, and awaiting to get fingerprinted on the 23rd. Prior to that, I was admitted on an F-1 Visa. I have some debts that I haven't paid. Medical bills and one phone bill. When I get my social security card, would that go on my "new" credit report? or because it was prior to getting my s.s. they wouldn't be able to track it down on me.

ps: those are the only bills that I have paid yet was still billed for additional stuff that I refuse to pay. Medical bill: broken arm 3 X-rays for $3256.73 (#######?). Phone bill: T-mobile (ended contract early and paid $256 termination fee) yet was billed an additional 2 months after termination..$238.

I do pay my bills.. just curious about credit.

Did you not get a SS card when you were on F-1 Status. I also came to the US on an F-1 Visa but i would never have been able to get a phone etc without my SS number. I actually got my SS card my first week in the states back in 2003. Were you able to get a phone without a SS? Just Curious. If you were given a SS number as an F-1 Student, that number will forever remain your SS number to my knowledge...

Ur Question is kinda confusin.

Were you ever issued a SSN number?

Did you use that same number to get Credit or medical treatment?

Asuming you u answer both YES, i'll say you'll phucked.

Ur only option is to dispute with credit angency

from what i know most Collection agency build their case

soely on SSN so if you didnt use any numbers you might be

off the hook.

thanks..

i really need to know if anyone can help me... i'm sure someone has had an experience similar to mine..

Do yourself a big favour and pay your debts.... then you will not have to worry about what might or might not happen with your SSN...

Starting your new life here on the wrong footing with credit is not the best way to go... if you cant afford to pay all your medical bills then contact the hospital and negotiate a payment plan with them... as for your cell phone bill sort out with the company why your were charged for aditional months when you had already paid an early termanation fee...

Life is too short to be having this hanging over your head, living in fear that it will all catch-up with you one day...

If i am posting on here it's because i've attempted to negotiate with the hospital, and they say that those are the bills to pay. I paid my surgery, my cast, my therapy. After so many months, they threw in the X-ray bills.

As far as T-mobile, I filed a report with Ripoffreport.com. I paid my termination fee through the refund of my $600 deposit. I received $344 back from my deposit. However, they're non-negotiable those people and as much paperwork I faxed to them, I still receive mail from them requesting me to pay for 2 additional months I did not use.

Like i mentioned above, I pay all my bills. However, ones that I deem are Unfair and Unrealistic or simply inexistant, I refuse to pay. Is it too much to refuse to give MY money to somebody who isn't entitled to it?

Kezzie wasn't accusing you of being a poor debtor, she was just trying to help with the minimal amount of information that you originally gave us.

Have you tried to negotiate a payment plan with the hospital? It may be the only way to get them off your back. Plus if you had X-rays done then someone has to pay. If you were uninsured at the time then it's going to have to be you, I'm afraid. Some hospitals do waive certain fees, I remember that we had a member here (Maria, I think) who needed surgery and they reduced her costs considerably after she spoke to them.

Additionally, I'm going to move this thread into the forum regarding SSNs. :)

Well, there's one easy way to find out.

Once you've got your SSN, get your credit report, and see what it says :)

Problem is, though, that your credit will suck even worse with a brand new SSN, because no-one knows anything about you :)

one more thing: make sure you don't end up in the same hospital. they might take a kidney as back payment :)

I am sorry, I did not mean you are a bad debtor... I was trying to point out that if you had the x-rays done then you have to pay and it would be better to deal with this now and work something out with the hospital.... as for the cell phone company maybe you need to have a lawyer take a look at this, the often give advice on a pro-bono (low cost or free) for 1st appointment... this may help end this for you and let you move on with your new life with out this added worry...

I hope you can sort something out...

By law you are allowed a free credit report. After you receive your SSN wait a few months and request one. See what shows up.

My understanding from the OP's words are that he-she pays the bills, and is surprised of how much 3xrays cost. I'm not familiar with such costs...thus very surprised of the amount. Maybe suggesting going to the source of for example the list of the exact costs of such medical exams would be more useful than lecturing the OP. Then, appealing of the exagerated amount if it's still the case...with an ombudsman, etc...We know all now of how much we are taxated and have to pay exagerated amount of bills all the time...it's not a secret anymore in a such consumption world...have you heard what financial disasters we might face??

This medical bills situation made me recall a question i've asked a dr in regards with the insurances or not situation: she told me for example that she doesn't know how much the hospital charges for a visit for a person without insurance, she didn't even know how much the insurance was charging either...then she tried to find some info about it...: it seems for a 15 min visit (because they have quotas to respect) without insurance is around 600.00...

Sometimes things are not at all reasonable...understand to the human level of possibility to pay...some bills...

I was not lecturing anyone.... I was advising that the OP contact the hospital to sort out a payment plan to clear the outstanding debt for the X-Rays that were taken at the time of the injury....

If the OP thinks the cost of the X-Rays are to high again enter into discussions with the hospital to see if the cost can be reduced... but at the end of the day the OP will have to pay for the service recieved... no matter how unreasonable they think it is....

The cell phone issue is a diffrent thing here there is a clear dispute of being charged for a service they did not receive.... and sometimes you have to get a lawyer involved to get things sorted out with a company that is being unfair...

But regardless of whether you think a bill for a service you have used is right or wrong... if you used the service then you have to pay the bill... so working with the hospital to come to an agreement is the best way to deal with this situation...

You don't seem to question the more than 3000.00 for 3 x-rays as "unreasonable" but you question the cell phone as such. hm!!...In addition, the OP in your saying HAS to pay that amount without questionning it? if so, this is exactly what i was point out, you don't seem to get it...lol...
