I'm really upset

My 2 cents:

There tends to be an anti muslim/anti arab attitude in the US. It's not horrible, but it's there. Most people don't realize it, because they're not the targets, and it's not something that they need concern themselves with.

Occasionally, this attitude flairs on this board. For those of us who happen to be muslim/arab/involved with someone who is one, we are aware of this attitude, because we experience it in our every day lives. VJ is one of the few boards I still frequent, because the attitude doesn't show up here a lot. But, when it does, it stings even more, because we view this as a safehaven away from the sh*t we deal with in our real lives.

This is not said to excuse the language of the quote in question, but to explain why some of us feel a wee bit like outsiders in OT.

Give me a break! Does every statement someone makes have to begin with, "I don't mean to generalize, because I know not everyone..."? I think it's obvious that she did not mean every single person who's ever posted something in OT. She herself just posted something in OT!

No I did not mean every single person. Of course I didn't. There are certain people who post a lot here. That seem to be on the forum all the time and say hatefull things, about things they know nothing about. The replies with agreements are pages long. Also christians sometimes can feel uncomfortable in off topic, I myself have a lot of different opinions, and sometimes on VJ in the past there have been some anti-christian sentiment threads. Or the occasional mocking but people don't think they are being rude. But I don't even care. It's more "acceptable" to be that way with Christians.

Because of it though, I have been given the chance so many times to explain my beliefs on VJ and I think most people have come to respect who I am and my beliefs because I took the time to show who I am and not just say who I am. Then if anyone wants to start ####### about my beliefs, I don't really care! It's not a label, it's really the way I try to live my life.

I wish I'd see more people in other religions on VJ showing who they are, how they live their life, and to realize if you feel an attitude against you, it gives you an opportunity to explain why you are what you are. I think calling people names is not a good way to do it. Believe me, I've gone down that path and it did nothing good at all. This may be slightly off topic to the post, but it does relate to anyone who feels anti-muslim sentiment. You can turn it into an ugly thing, or into something where you get to show who you are and why.

Also I don't know if what lostinlove posted had anything to do with 2 comments made in that thread the other day, about the middle east forum, and the women getting "boy toys" from the middle east. Of course the people who said those things are not worth paying attention to. So I guess I also don't understand how so many in off topic were labeled racist. ??? (eeks I can't spell today!)

this topic has me totally pissed......That comment was made, not pointing fingers at any particular person....and for the people who took it personally...either, your looking to pick a fight, or, maybe have a guilty conscience....I have seen many stupid comments, or comments degrading other races in off topic, so it wasnt a lie what was posted..Visa journey has become soo sad and disgusting....this use to be the place i came to find escape, and maybe, a good laugh, or tear, and now all it does is raise my darn blood pressure...everyone in this forum is an adult, and im guessing, im the youngest (if not damn near) on this whole website...and its me who is getting annoyed of people acting like children....I use to be proud of this website, and proud of the people who belonged to it...not any more...if it was not for this website....sofyan and i probably would still be apart...this was back when people still supported and encouraged eachother....like many people lately....ill go ahead and say it...IM OUTTA HERE....its soo old..and so sickening.....
