My interview will be on May 18. I heard of many cases which they did not get their passport stamps. Anyway most cases I look at the GC tend to arrive within 2-4 weeks. So, I am wondering if i can leave the states and have my brother brings my GC with him when he follows me to Thailand after he's done with his summer class.

Seems risky. I've seen people wait for many weeks or months after a successful interview. Or what if something is wrong on the card when it arrives. I'd ask for the stamp if you have definite travel plans.

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail

I agree. There seem to be many possible scenarios where you could end up being in a lot of trouble. So why not wait an additional couple of weeks??

I agree. You may want to ask for the stamp. Just inform that you need to travel to home country because GC can arrive much later for one reason or another.

First of all, thanks so much for your suggestions. However, I have heard that they are no longer stamp the passport because GC can be process quickly now today. Do you think it's possible to ask for the stamp? Don't you think that they will have some doubts on my case?

My Greencard went missing in the mail.... 6 months later I am still waiting for a new one..... I would not leave without the greencard or the stamp in your passport.....

Yes they still issue the stamp..... they just dont do it for everyone unless you need it... I would not make any planes to leave until you know the outcome of your interview and have either the card or the stamp....

careful. We were approved and my wife got the stamp. She went to Thailand the next week. Then we got a letter saying she had to do additional biometrics before they would issue the card. She had 78 days to do this. She had to cut her trip short to do the biometrics.

Not advisable... if you really need the stamp in your passport you can ask for it (demand it nicely) - tell them that you're booked to leave the country on X date and you need the stamp for proof, and you should get it.

However, I have heard that they are no longer stamp the passport because GC can be process quickly now today.

That is not a universal truth applied to all Application Support Centers. At my interview, I asked for the stamp and was given it, even though the officer told me my card would arrive within 2 weeks. I explained I needed the stamp because I was going to a staffing agency after the AOS interview, and the agency would need a document to verify my work status in the United States.
