A Protest Over Bus and Train Citizenship Checks

Profiling is part of the job. Pretty much every time I go through security, ironically in LA, I have to go through 2nd checks. My guess is that my tattoos don't help. And if I don't shave, forgetaboutit. I have had marshals sit next to me on flights ffs..

At the end of the day they are just doing their job. And I am happy to see them do that. I have nothing to hide so why should I be intimidated. We all know if they didn't then there would be some clown on TV, following an incident, saying "it ain't right" and yak yak yakking on about it.

Damned if you do damned if you don't really

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Speaking of IDs, the US Custom and Border Patrol Agent thought I was an LPR and asked me for my ID until I squarely told him that I'm a US Citizen.

She saw me to be of Asian background, and jumped to conclusion before I even get a chance to speak. This is the day with criminal law, the enforcer jams stuff into your throat before you get to invoke your rights.

I don't know of any US citizen who routinely carries proof of citizenship.

i do. to have a cch license one must prove they are a usc first.

Well ok, so you prove it once and get a cch license. Why do you need to keep carrying proof of citizenship?

The license itself is not enough?

The police should be able to simply punch your details into a secure computer and get your immigration status; as they already do to check outstanding warrants etc etc. Obviously an accent is a dead giveaway. If your status comes up clean then you are free to go. The police should only be able to do this unless they have probable cause.

Well, unless they are federal immigration agents who should have the authority to perform random spot checks on work sites etc. Meaning checking people in a certain area and not one or two people walking down the street.

How about when cops just yell over you when you try to say something?

They have no interest in what you have to say. It's a power thing.

How about you surreptitiously record them screaming at you and get them fired?

I learned back when I was in high school never ever get smart to cops. Both my friend and I, who is Lebanese, received a beating from these redneck cops. I ate the asphalt and had quite a few scars to prove it. I hated them for a while to be honest but I have met a lot of great cops. Cops who believe in the law and serving the community. While bad cops are out there, they are more the exception. The amount of stories I have. Or my friend being pulled out of the car because he was Asian and the cop looking through his phone to find "drug dealers".

This is Jersey, they'll probably get an award.

What about the when the opposite happens? I am sure there are hundreds more cases of loonies here going off at the cop knowing he cannot touch them. The cops are not the bad guys here, that's for sure.. I would like to see the same people try that to cops abroad. I know in India, for example, such an action towards a cop would result in the person ending up 'missing'.

I am surprised though. You're Indian right? They usually don't get hassled back home. Well unless they have 'modified' their car, which happens to everyone.

Yup that's surely what we want from our community policing... Perhaps our elected officials should think about padding up our police force by importing a few of those ex-Saddam Baathist guys.

You're dam right there. I hate seeing people piss on law enforcement because they can. Even in England you would receive a nice beating if you ###### with the cops as people can do here. I have seen it coming out of a pub. A guy thought he should mouth off to a female officer and then proceeded to throw something at her. Bad Bad mistake.. We were laughing our heads off at him crying like a girl..

any kansas law enforcement official would know that having a cch license proves i'm a usc, so that's all i'd need.

Actually one of the biggest criticisms of the UK police is that they lack the sufficient powers to do their jobs effectively. There's definitely a "there's nothing we can do" attitude present, certainly in the Essex force. You can see someone commit a crime, like Chav yobs kicking in a bus shelter, but unless the cop actually witnesses it him/herself - there's often very little they're willing to do to follow up on it.

So I'm not sure where you're drawing you're conclusion from that police in the US are "soft" in comparison.

I thought you can get a CCH without being a citizen.
