The "culture" that treats us as outsiders even though we've been around for decades. The culture of white ethnics controlling political parties and treating the townships, the police forces and the public schools as extended patronage schemes - jobs for their idiot kids and hoe wives.

"We" is the outsiders.

That would happen in any country you migrate to as an outsider. My parents have lived in Australia for over 46 years and are only now seen as Australians. Keep in mind Melbourne has a huge international community.

In Jefferson Parish, near New Orleans, Harry Lee, a Chinese American, was voted in as sherrif continuously for about 25 years or more by a constituency that was overwhelmingly not Asian. Of course, he was as corrupt as anyone anywhere, so I guess he doesn't count. Now we have an Indian American as our governor, voted in by a constituency that is overwhelmingly not Asian. He seems to be far from corrupt. (fingers crossed)

The face of America/Americans is changing.

You need to actually try to integrate for there to be equality.

It's already started in Edison, NJ. The Asians got together and voted in a Korean-American mayor who is now purging the police force and changing the culture from the top down.

I guess I meant to say that it is hard to impossible to change a cop's (as an individual) perception of different races.

I live in the south, and we have many racist cops around here. Guess what- the mayor is black and NOTHING has changed, because the cops here frankly don't give a sh*t.

I have seen it many times in AUS. Where people migrate there but only stick to their kind. Naturally there will be resentment from others towards them. I can say though that I find Indians, in general, respect the laws of the country they are in. Therefore the police should not really have any issues with them.

Yeah. I tried to edit my post about Sherrif Harry Lee to say that the Mayors of New Orleans have been African Americans for the last 20 years or so, but they have been as corrupt as they come, and the New Orleans police department was probably the most corrupt in the country.

The police shouldn't have issues with any particular group - but I don't think that's always the case - and if members of your community make constant complaints of harrassment its not exactly going to inspire color-blind cosmopolitan "assimilation".

The Metropolitan police in the UK have had problems with institutional racism going back to the 60's and the Sus laws. The Met was shocked and outraged when the accusation was made in the 90's after the Stephen Lawrence trial - but a public enquiry concluded that this was indeed the case.

In fairness to Charles, he's pretty much spent most of his life with the military, which is probably one of the most meritocratic and integrated institutions in America.
