Well in my city of Portland, Oregon the liberal city commissioners try to block every Wal-Mart they can. Every time that one has been proposed they change the zoning requirements. This blocks Wal-mart, at the same time they are always proposing more taxes and more programs for the poor. And play on people's guilt. They are so disingenuous.

The truth is they are beholding to the unions that have declared war on Wal-mart after failing several times to organize the Wal-mart employees.

Wal-mart has done more to increase the standard of living for the poor than any government program. Liberals saying that they are the champions of the poor is a joke. They only seek power.

What does this have to do with oil? oh well

The answer is that Walmart's CEO Lee Scott has said it doesn't make financial sense.

You are truly an idiot..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Yeah the city council in the (Republican dominated) LA suburb where we used to live did that too.

They don't allow Republicans in the LA area. They barely allow them where I live. During the 04 election they stole my Bush yard signs 4 times (luckily I had 25 of them), egged my car, throw a rock at my car, broke the rear view mirror, took the bumper sticker off my car twice, maybe they were scared of the leftist "stormtroopers"?

Oh and that one guy that threatened to beat me up when I was mowing my lawn one day as he was walking by.

That is what I was talking about Los Angeles, Where diversity is trumpeted, except when it means ideological diversity.

Why for quoting a Walmart executive explaining why there are no Walmarts in Manhattan? Where's my million dollars?

Talk about pulling information out of your ###. I shouldn't even bother reply since like on many occasions you clearly do not know what yo are going on about. The corrupt NY unions campaigned heavily against walmart.

Hmmm not where I lived. That town was very conservative.

Unions everywhere have campaigned against Walmart, not just NYC. I don't know what your point is there. I'm sorry an actual quote from the CEO is inconvenient for your argument.

Are you saying the world's largest retailer cannot afford to setup in NYC? yes or no. I need to hear you say it before I roll you. A retailer that can buy and sell a million NYC's..

I'm sure they could afford to set up a store in NYC, but with the way they run thier stores, they probably could not do so profitably. Not without significantly increasing the price of goods sold in the stores. But then it wouldnt be Walmart if they did that.

Walmart requires cheap land and cheap labor to keep its costs and prices low. NYC has neither.

I'm sure they can afford it; they need to be able to make it profitable. Big difference.
