It's easy peasy! Smile, be nice, dress decently, be polite, have all your documents in a folder for easy access. Bring a magazine or crossword book, as the waiting around time takes up most of the appointment. Actually talking with the documents person and interviewer is around 15 minutes combined. I had my crosswords.

I'm still in shock over the questions they ask. How do they filter out "fake" marriages if they ask qs like: Where did you meet? How old is your fiance? I mean, come on! Ask me about his work, which school he went to, his favorite elementary subject, etc.!

But anyhoo, they want to see how you answer, not what you answer.

I don't know why people freak out over the interview. If you are seriously lovers, trust me, the "interview" is small potatoes. Make sure all your forms are printed off from the computer and not handwritten! I had handwritten the DS-156 and was asked to go back downstairs to redo them on the computer. That tacked on half hour to my whole appointment.

Parking is $3/half hour. I paid $12 in total.

For my interview in Montreal, there was more waiting than anything else. As for the actual interview, the interviewer was extremely (and unexpectedly) polite. The interview room was a small room and the man was behind glass. He asked me only a few questions, ie. how did we meet, when did he purpose, have I been arrested, have I lived in the U.S. before, what does my fiance do for a living. The total time for the actual interview was like 3 minutes. He asked me if I had any questions and then he told me that I qualified for a K1 visa (woo!). My interview was on March 26 and I got my visa in hand today!

Charlene, watch out....orange n pink interviewed in Montreal. The rules are a little different for us interviewing in Vancouver. In Vancouver you MUST deposit the visa fee at the bank. You can't pay it at the interview. Also, as long as you have all of the documents listed on the Packet 3 checklist that apply to you, as well as a copy of the I-129F, you should be just fine. Relax and breathe! I bet you're excited! The interview's NEXT WEEK!

Go to Scotia Bank now and deposit $131 US Dollars into the US Consulate account. You will have printed off the deposit slip from your checklist. If you got US cash, deposit that. If you don't, bring around $132 Canadian to deposit. You will bring the two stamped deposit slips to the interview. You must deposit the money before the interview, like now.

Always make three copies of EVERYTHING. If you love the environment, this is not the time to save trees, unfortunately.

Don't be argumentative ie. don't have "whiny" voice. I heard a guy with that "whiny" voice and could tell the agents were getting agitated.

The interviewer did ask me how much my fiance made and to be honest with y'all, I have no freaking clue. I didn't even look at the bottom of the affidavit of support where it lists his income. I blurted out some figure and the interviewer said, "Oh, it's right here, 195." I blurted out 150. I guess I was close enough.

My fiance had Fed Exed his 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 tax packages prepped by his accountant, his property assessment for 2007, his bank account standings, his credit. His supporting financial documents were already three pounds. My documents and the original I-129F packet was another two pounds.

The things they really look at are:

-everything on the checklist

-photos

-supporting financial documents (if your fiance's income is high by looking at the amount on the affidavit of support and you should be ok. The documents guy flipped through his tax packets only to see we had brought 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 paperwork)

I am the kind of person who always brings more than expected. You will impress them with your organization.

I wore an outfit with no pockets, and only had my keys, a pen, my crosswords, and my coin purse. Not like this is helpful, but minimize the unimportant things and maximize the paperwork. That's my philosophy and I'm stickin to it.

If the checklist asks for only 2007, then you should be fine. I forget what the checklist asks for, but I thought it was last three years? But anyhow, we were over-prepared. I like it when people ask for something and BAM! I give them double (not for everything in life, but in circumstances like these).

That was fast J--I knew your interview was coming up but somehow I did not know you'd had it already. Congratulations!

Make sure all your forms are printed off from the computer and not handwritten!

Does the I 134 have to be filled out on line? I just tried doing it this morning and my employer does not fit in the "name of concern" box. FFS, I work for the State of Illinois, which is not exactly a lengthy name! Can I change the font on it so there are no serifs on the I and it fits? *Perplexed now.*

Thanks for the congratulations, SonoranSongbird.

I'm sure you can change the font, don't see a reason you can't. As long as forms are typed.

Fyi, if you are picking up your K visa, you don't need to wait in line the next day like everyone else picking up other visas. If your interviewer tells you, "Come back tomorrow at TWO," then that means you bypass the long line outside and just let the security guard know you're here to pick up your K visa at 2. The long line outside is for other visas.
