Immigration Extension Documents

Hi all,

Looks like I have to provide that Immigration Extension Documents for my Interview, as stated on my Packet 4 checklist. The problem is... what is that? I mean I have never heard of that piece of document being mentioned before and the funny thing is I have never extended my stay in the USA during my only visit there.

I don't think I have any document to show my "extension" except for the stamp I have got at the POE indicating the duration that I could stay in the USA. The officer stamped 28 days on my passport but I left after 14 days from the date of entry. I obviously don't have my I-94 with me anymore since they took it when I left the US... so do you think that passport stamp is sufficient to show that I did not extend my stay and I did not overstay.

Just to double confirm, the immigration takes the I-94 from you when you exit the USA, right? And also do they stamp on your passport when you depart from the USA? This is because I don't have the I-94 with me anymore and the only stamp I got was when I entered the USA and no stamp when I left.

I will also call the consulate to enquire about this but I am just impatient and restless now, thinking about all this and it stresses me out though I know this is already the final step of this process.... Gosh, I am suppose to be sleeping but I can't sleep.. ugghh...

You wont have those documents, before you never applied for an extension to stay passed the date on the I-94, so you can not provide such document.

As you said before the I-94 is left with the airline staff at the gate before boarding the plane (when leaving the U.S.) So you did the righ thing by giving it back.

The entry stamp only proves that you entered and how long you were allowed to stay (if they wrote the date of the I-94 on the stamp as well, they don't always do this). But this stamp does not prove the date when you left the country.

Did you get a stamp when you came back to your home country? I got a stamp from the guatemalan immigration officer every time I've come back home, that has the date of my return. Do they do that in your country?

Also, it's possible that the list on the Packet 4 is a general list and not all the documents listed are available for all the cases, and only people who have asked for an extension have to present immigration extension documents. In your case it's impossible to have it, because you never asked for an extension.

I was just checking my passport, and there were no indication on how long I stayed in the USA. The only indication on the stamp is the date of entry. And you're right that they didn't write on the stamp the number of days I was allowed to stay! But it was written on the I-94 card though. Dang, should have made a copy of it!

Unfortunately the Malaysian Immigration does not use the stamping procedure any longer for Malaysian passport holders. We just had to scan our passport at the electronic gate. So..... no indication as to when I entered Malaysia. But, I still keep the air ticket carbon copy and boarding pass and luggage claim stickers for my flight, leaving the USA on the date as claimed on my forms that I submitted. I think that would help, wouldn't they?

You're right that the checklist is a general checklist but then it was checked and marked and scribbled by them in red ink, stating what I should provide for the interview. And this extension document is one of them being asked. I believe the reason they ask for this is because I entered the USA on a C-1 visa (transit) which allows me to stay in the USA for 28 days before boarding my plane to return to my home country from a third country. I only stayed for 14 days in the USA and left as planned. No extension.

Sigh... all this is driving me insane...
