Well, so far we are trying to get rid of old debt and pay off loans and stuff, so we have resources open again, kinda as a safety net.

Maybe it is my german mentality, but I am always trying to safe on things we buy and invest wisely which keeps money in our account also.

I am absolutley no financial expert so all the news about a possible recession are sounding pretty scary to me.

Being in the military, my husband has a somewhat secure job so at least we are not too worried to be without income anytime soon.

When we balance our checkbooks, my husband recently started to raise his eyebrows when he checks the reciepts from stores, groceries have become outragesly expensive.

For the price of a house over there in NJ, i'm pretty sure you can buy a huge one here in the southwest. Here you can find a 3 BR, 3 BathR house, 2500 sq ft + with front and backyard for around 250Ks but still this city is too calm, retirees are heading this way for the warmer weather and there is not a lot of opportunities to grow.

Where are you?

Same thing over here, my wife is a savings freak, to the point we are really cheap but that also helps out because I get electronics happy and start buying ####### I dont need. So far we haven't seen any drastic change in our purchasing power but we are being cautious since we still have college loans, and want to save for a house.

bah! I just want to win the LOTTO!

Aah. A lot of retirees moving out to El Paso? I had no idea.

I know people who've made the move from Jersey to Dallas and Austin in the last year or so. I hear there's a ton of opportunity in Dallas.

Yeah, El Paso and NM area. If you go to Las Cruces (which has a lower property tax) and it's around 30 mins away from here, you'll see tons of old folks with different accents from all over the US hehe. Weather here is warmer, an average of 80-s-90's in the summer, and I'm talking about 3 months of warm weather, and during the winter is around the late 40's-50's not bad for the old timers.

And yup Dallas is full of opportunities, i would move over there but I hate small cities and I hate big cities equially, I'd settle for Sn Antonio or Austin.
