Time outside the US for the past 5 years

Hmmm.... I'm now filling out the N-400 form and part 7 asks for the time spent outside the US during the past 5 years. Seeing as I've only been living in the States for 3 years, I have at least 2 continuous years that were spent abroad. I don't even know if you consider them "trips".

Please, help! I'm not sure how to fill this out.

You adjust the question to time out of states in past 3, because you are filing to naturalize based on continuous marriage to a US citizen. You need to be resident for 18 months of the past 3 years.

Also your profile still shows (DCF) yet you are talking filing for naturalization, so at least should indicate lifting conditions or perhaps naturalization.

So, does it mean that I should answer each related question (places where I've lived in the last 3 years, etc.) with the adjustment to 3 years?

Also, should I write it down in an attached letter that I'm filling out this questionnaire with the 3-year period in mind?

Answer it for 5 years showing the first 2 as living out of the country. Just note that you are filing for naturalization based on marriage to a US citizen.

I had called the USCIS hotline with the same question, and they said to just answer for the last 3 years - and that's what I did.
