Hi guys,

I called the USCIS 800 number 800-375-5283, but I couldn't get through to talk to a live person. When I got through the automated line where you can check for AOS cases, it said that my receipt number was not found. I tried the receipt numbers for both the EAD and AOS, but none of hem were found. Do you guys know how I can check the status of the EAD and AOS? We filed a month ago, and just want to know if we should schedule for a Biometrics appointment and how.

To use the online case status service, you must have the receipt number, which is printed on your Notice of Action (NOA).

Btw, a month is not really a long time to wait for most applicants. I got my biometrics appointment a little over a month after I received my NOAs. Some on VJ have a shorter wait, others are still waiting after several months. If you still don't hear anything after 90 days since the receipt date on your NOA, you may wish to consider making an InfoPass appointment to speak with someone in person, especially in the case of your EAD application.

Did the NOA say "we will schedule your biometrics appointment"? If yes, all you can do is wait to get the appointment letter. Calling 800 is pretty much useless at this point. But as Ephesia suggested, do set up online tracking -- the info online is the very same that the rep on the phone has.

Just a hint when checking Case Status online. Make sure you put in the letters and numbers EXACTELY as they appear on the NOAs. It took me a couple of times before it worked, the letters were case sensitive and I was entering them in lower case originally.

Good luck, hope you get some news soon. My biometrics are this Friday 10th Feb.

P.S. I dont know how useful other people have found the online case status? I havent had any "touches" on mine since everything was submitted. Yet they clearly have "touched" them since I got the RFE and the Biometrics Appointment.

if you want a live person---do nothing--they system will conclude you have a rotary phone and you will get a live person pretty fast.

after you get a person--this person is a contract employee and does not know much---insist on talking with a uscis customer service employee.

you will have to wait a while, but this person knows much more and can check cases on a computer system.

this stragy has worked for me.

i dont know if it will work for you.
