marriage certificate

The document checklist for USCIS mentions that we need to send our current marriage certificate along with our N400 application. We got married abroad, and thus have a marriage certificate in a foreign language. Do we need to have a professional/certified translator translate it? If so, where can I find the list of accredited translators?

Thanks!

there is no official list of translators.

just take it to someone that is competent to translate into english and then have them include a note with their name and address and saying that they are competent to translate the document into english and that the translation is an accurate translation of the original document such as marriage certificate, birth certificate, divorce decree, etc.....

for instance, for a document in spanish, I just went to a nearby storefront here in south florida and paid a paralegal to translate into english. paid about 40 bucks.

and honestly, if you are truly competent, you can do the translation yourself and include a note with your name and address and a statement that you are competent to translate and the translation into english is a correct translation of the original document.

Translating marriage certificate is not hard. You translate yourself and go to bank for notary your documents are free.

I agree. You can get anyone who is fluent in both languages to translate it and sign a declaration at the end of the translation saying that he/she is fluent. It can be anybody, including friends and family.
