Hello all:

OMG!!! I don't understand this at all. We both named ourselves as agent of choice.. My husband has not as of yet file the affidavid of support. He hasn't even done his taxes. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! I received from the NVC instruction on sending them money. Why are they asking me for $400.It says it is application processing fee.It tells me not to send any DS-230 as it will cause delays.I mean if we are both name as agent does that mean we pay twice (hope that is not a silly question, if it is go ahead and laught). We are going throught CR1, we have been approve so far. Please check my time line as you will see.Help, I am so stress out over all these forms, I hate forms. All I want to do is live a quiet normal life with my husband, yes, yes. I know. we have to pay our dues first. Thanks in advance.

I did not know that the NVC would let both people be the Choice of Agent, I thought it was only one person. In any case, the NVC sent you the IV Bill, which the actual visa fee right after they received the DS-3032 (choice of agent form). Once you pay them the $400 IV Bill, they will generate the DS-230.

Have you paid the AOS fee bill yet? If not, then once you pay it they will generate the I-864 which is the AOS. This will give you husband a chance to file his taxes for 2007. The AOS portion of the NVC process has nothing to do with the IV Bill and DS-230.

What you now need to figure out is see who the NVC has assigned as the Choice of Agent because that is the point of contact where they'll start sending all correspondence.

Hello!

To answer your questions:

1. The US spouse and the foreign spouse receives all mail from the NVC. The "choice of agent" just means that you can do things faster when communicating within the US. Typically the agent gets NVC mail weeks sooner.

2. Remember that AOS and the DS-230 are on two "separate" tracks that merge together in the end. So, it's OK if you haven't submitted your AOS yet. You can pay your IV bill fee of $400 (only once). Don't submit your DS-230 until the NVC acknowledges receipt of your IV bill-the automated phone service will be updated to reflect payment of the IV bill.

3. If you have paid your AOS fee and the NVC has entered it into their system, then you can submit the I-864. I don't think they update the phone service for AOS-related things. You'll need to talk to an operator.

4. As for the taxes-they're due soon! Plus, it'd be good to include them in the affidavit of support.

Have you read about James' shortcuts? And the VJ forum on the NVC? They are very helpful!

:)
