I've gathered that getting transferred to CSC is a good thing, a very good thing. Can anyone say what determines why one case (over another) is transferred to CSC? Is there some magic "something" that determines this? Or is it simply a random act from USCIS?

I dont know, from what I gather on reading around it depends on the work loads of the service centers..

I am so sad, no one wants to "touch" me.

Usually, it is a good thing, because you will probably get approved without an interview. But Steph is right, sometimes it takes longer at CSC that if you had an interview, it really depends. It is less trouble when you get transferd, because you don't have to prepare everything for the interview and you don't have to go through all this stress.

Steph, I know how it is, we are really sensitive when it comes to the "touches", but sometimes they don't mean anything, their lack is not a bad thing either, maybe USCIS just didn't update your case online. I got stressed out when I saw my case touched 3 days ago, because I'm affriad I would get RFE, but maybe they just moved my file from one room to another? I know they have to scan the number when they do things like that so they know who exactly has your file at the moment.

Thanks, Steph and ella.

As far as "touches" go, my husband HATED it when I was raving on about not getting a touch during our K-1 process :) So much so that whenever he saw me on VJ, he would tell me to try my HARDEST to not go here :D Haha. I think I was so touch-hungry back then because we were apart from each other. For our AOS, I don't really check our status because it's not so "urgent" so to speak. And I have a tendency to ponder over things. It's really for the sake of my sanity more than anything else :)

Good luck with your touches!

I would like to know how people are getting drivers licenses? I took my wife to get one and they wouldn't give it to her based on the fact that her status is not defined. we tried to get it on her K-1 but they took so long to approve it that when they were going to issue it they couldnt because the visa would expire less than 60 days fromt he issue date. So is there something else we can use (marriage cert, ssn #, etc...) thanks.

Driver's License issues vary state by state. Some states won't issue them to K1 holders and some will. I got mine in Massachusetts with no problem but it's not the same for everyone.

Its a pain in the State of California. While other states are more lenient, California is the worst to get even a driver's permit. If you don't apply for State ID or Drivers license in CA within the first 3 weeks of arriving, they don't even bother looking at your I-94 since they require at least 2 months before I-94 expires. I was able to get my driver's permit but it expires when I-94 expires and since I've never driven before I can't take the drivers test yet. But even if I could, the license would expire on I-94 expiration date. So now, I won't be able to complete my license until I show my proof of residence to DMV, which is a green card in simple terms. DMV at 3 locations said the same thing, all in Southern California. I still have to find out though from DMV if I have to retake the written test or if I can continue with a permit once I show my green card. Hope this helps anyone.

Thanks for the info. Just one thing I heard that they can take the EAD as proof of residence. Is that correct???

I know here in Georgia, the EAD (Work Athorization) is valid for a drivers license.
