I am visiting my Fiance in the US while our k-1 Visa is pending. I'm canadian. I Was wondering if it was legal to get a work visa so i could work there while waiting for my k-1 to be approved.

Not without a sponsoring employer.....

YMMV

No - you entered the US as a 'visiting' Canadian. You are not allowed to work as a visitor. You need to have an employer sponsor you, submit all of the necessary documentation to the appropriate locations, meet the employment standards, pay the appropriate fees, wait for the appropriate visa and then enter on that visa in order to work.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

NO.

You entered on a tourist visa. No work allowed on a tourist visa.

Your attempt to get a work permit while you are here on a tourist visa and waiting for your K-1 to be approved is called TRYING TO ADJUST STATUS WITHOUT PROPER PROCEDURE. The USCIS frowns on this and sees it as attempt to circumvent their rules.

It will count against you.

And if possible would require a departure and re-entry

YMMV

thanks!

Yeah, I would definitly go back to canada and do it the right way. I was just worried that applied for the work visa would interfeer with my k-1 process. I have worked in the US before and know all about getting the employer sponsor.. I was just curious as to whether working at all in the states was frowned upon for pending k-1.

Applying for a visa does not mean you need to put your life on hold.... If you qualify and it can be obtained, then there is no issue....

YMMV
