We should label them enemy combatants and send them to Gitmo...they'll make 'em talk.

The kids or the parents. Either way they need to be sent to Singapore. After going through their correction system they will come back boy scouts.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Film ratings provide a guide to the content included in a film - not much else. When you're looking at say, the BBFC cutting out headbutt shots out of movies like The Matrix and Spiderman 2, that's hardly a scientific standard. Cuts are arbitrary for all we know.

Maybe we need to start using science and research to grade films. Something is obviously going wrong considering the frequency of stuff like this from kids. Especially when compared to kids of the same age in other nations.

Exactly. I've always believed that people like Hitler only needed a little more punishment from his parents and he would have ended up being a painter on the street corner.

Just out of interest BY do you have any personal experience with raising kids? Apart from having been one?

I am not suggesting you can't have an opinion if you haven't, but it's rather enlightening when you do go through the process. My experience with kids tells me that the anger and frustration that a 9 year old can feel can lead to them making some very strange threats. If you actually take the time to get to the bottom of where they come from, it's quite obvious that they are baseless in terms of what they would do given the opportunity but very much a product of learning how to cope with the world beyond that of being a kid playing games.

Good parenting is in fact teaching a child to channel these emotions properly allowing them to express feelings so that they don't become bottled up and become the basis of psychosis while also ensuring that these expressions don't cross unacceptable boundaries and are appropriate to the causes.

Good luck with that. Scientific censorship - that's a new one. Perhaps the thinking is that if headbutts are cut out of movies that it will stop the frequency of headbutts on weekend night pub fights. It seems a bit of a stretch to me...

I guess there's no point in asking you what is your basis for comparison of the behavioural differences (antisocial and otherwise) between kids of the same age in this and other countries and "the frequency of stuff like this".

Things do go wrong, parents don't always amount to much - some are good, some are bad and some are merely indiferrent but there is no cause/effect data that makes what you are saying even plausible, let alone likely. I am also curious where you get the idea that the US in particular is producing such a high percentage of bad parents. How do you reach this conclusion?

No but based on scientific and behavioral research. Then again as I said earlier countries like the UK, AUS and Canada already do that, to a degree.

The behavioral difference is self evident. I don't need research to see that kids in the US, in the areas I have lived in, have a different attitude to those of Australia. Let alone back when I was their age.

Not a high percentage by a growing percentage. One really good source is people such as teachers who have been in the industry for a while. A group of people who gets to see first hand the changes in kids behavior and attitudes. Especially any teachers who have also taught abroad.

Have a look at both the living standards and crime rates of Singapore then get back to me..

Conclusions simply can't be reached from anecdotal experiences. My experiences run exactly counter to yours and I have a son within the public education system at this time. I haven't come across anything remotely concerning in the behaviour of kids here in the US compared to in the UK nor have I any experiences with kids today that make me believe that they are worse now than when I was a kid so where does that leave us?

Heck, why stop at Singapore...why don't we look to the Saudis...they seem to keep criminal behavior in check. I like your thinking.

Give me a break. Their emotions. Funny how thousands of generation prior to them didn't have all of this pandering BS about their emotions and did just fine. Maybe you have touched another issue such as the babying of these kids. Baby of kids who are already too big for their boots.

Saudi Arabia is a whole different kettle of fish. Whereas Singapore is quite similar to the west. Well apart from the pandering to criminals. I wonder how that has worked out for them in comparison to lets say LA. Just the other day I heard someone was shot in the head driving down a freeway there. I saw it in a liberal Australian newspaper.

We had the exactly same moral panic news stories in the UK about kids being "influenced" by movies or video games to commit heinous deeds, yet all share the same lack of substance. People want to find things to blame for the ####### that goes wrong - it doesnt' mean that everything can be boiled down to a simple case of cause and effect of external factors.

The Jamie Bulger case in the UK became about that - after the BBC showed a selection of "video nasties" in its reporting - though there was no proof that the kids had actually watched any of the videos shown. Didn't stop those specific movies being taken off the shelves in UK stores. Of course both those kids came from pretty deprived, abusive backgrounds - but we'd rather focus on the stuff they may or may not have watched, rather than the reality - that a mixture of factors caused the aberrent behaviour that lead to that crime.

Outside of the X-Files, people generally don't watch a movie or a TV show and then spontaneously and inexplicably go out and commit violent acts.
