Let me see if I can remember my Islam. As far as I can remember, jihad means "struggle". There are 4 types of jihad: by the heart (changing oneself), the tongue (telling others), the hand (by actions) and the sword (by war).

So, while jihad can mean war, it does not encompass what it is in its entirety. In the same way, jihad by the sword is supposed to be a last resort. But, people like to ignore that part. The greatest jihad is jihad of the heart (internal jihad...internal struggle).

To me, it is not a big deal who is outnumbering who. We all know there are billions of Christians and Muslims around the world. Some people may feel good when his/her particular faith outnumbers another one, but if someone thinks about world domination, it is bad. It is a recipe for disaster thinking about confrontation between Christians and Muslims. About the word 'jihad' I really wish someone who is fluent in Arabic can clarify more about its meaning, all I know is, it means 'internal struggle.' Now, if one wants to claim it means 'holy war,' it has to be backed up from the language.
