On the US Embassy at Manila website in the document of K3 Interview Prep Instructions (http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwfk3en.pdf) it has the paragraph below about Document Verification. It says to pay the document verification fee but does not mention to get the documents verified or even which documents need that. Of course our Marriage contract and her birth certificate are NSO certified...her passport has been certified, she has local and NBI clearance, the Affidavit of support is notarized, etc. Does anyone know specifically what they are referring to? Is there more I need to do than just pay the fee and get the receipt or do I need to get the verification before I go? Speed is important as I only have 3 weeks off work.

Document Verification. As a standard measure to validate the spousal relationship upon which the K3 visa petition is based, the Embassy conducts independent verification of civil records directly with Philippine government agencies before a visa can be issued. These local agencies charge a fee or fees for the records search, retrieval services and for making copies of public records. To avoid unnecessary delay in issuing the visa, we strongly encourage you to pay the document verification fee before your visa interview. The document verification fee is PHP650. This document verification fee is NOT the visa application fee. The visa application fee of US$131 must be paid as noted above (Proof of Payment).

The USEM normally does not tell petitioners which document or documents need to be verified. Not all petitioners are verified. Despite the conditions written on the USEM website, they seem to pick verification at random.

If you decide to pay the verification in advance as a precaution follow this link from the USEM website for directions:

http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwfdelb.pdf

Text until you receive a reply and then call DELBROS to verify they forwarded the information. If the USEM decides to do verification it normally takes two weeks to send out the verification request. If they do verify your spouses documents you are put on Administrative Review (AR) and there is nothing you can do but wait. The AR times have varied from a week to a couple of months so far.

Thanks so much...that's what I was looking for. Now I have a better understanding.

It's advisable to pay the DV well in advance. The DV process will begin if the fee is paid and the visa paperwork is at the embassy. At the time of the interview, it is up to the CO or other processing officials whether or not they will wait for the result of the DV. In may case my wife paid the DV on Sept. 3 for an interview on Sept. 16. For sure the DV had not been processed by the NSO when she contacted delbros after the interview. In spite of this she received her visa anyway, so it seems they don't consistently wait for the DV to be done. It seems to be a random process. Others paid their DV well in advance and are still waiting for their visa.
