Passport Expiring - will that affect lifting conditions at all?

Hi,

My Green card expired yesterday and I have filed for lifting conditions, had biometrics, etc. I am being realistic - I know they won't get to my file before 2009. But my Canadian passport expires October 08. Of course I will renew it.

Will this affect the US process in any way?

Your foreign passport expiration has no bearing on the processing of your I-751. Perhaps the only time your passport will come into play in this process is if your approval is still pending after your extension is expiring and you need a stamp in your passport for an international travel.

No, as long as you renew your passport.

It shouldn't. You will, of course, need your passport if you are travelling out of the US by air but your expired green card and the NOA are all you need for re-entry to the US or for use within the US. You will want to renew your passport regardless but don't need to worry about doing that until closer to its expiry date. I renewed mine in January and it took 10 days (using couriers) but it was due to expire a month before my green card and I wanted to have it available in case I needed to get the I-551 stamp. where did you filed? well... dont think that way because I have seen many cases where they have been aproved within 3 months... so.... why you dont go to your embassy and renew the passport just in case you need a stamp later on....

where did you filed? well... dont think that way because I have seen many cases where they have been approved within 3 months... so.... why you dont go to your embassy and renew the passport just in case you need a stamp later on....

I'll renew passport in the summer before it expires in October 08, that way I'll be ready for the stamp.

I'm not holding my breath that New York will get me processed before March 09, but miracles do happen!

No, as long as you renew your passport.

Even if you don't renew your passport, it doesn't matter.

It would matter if you wanted to travel internationally, of course. But the fact that you need an unexpired passport to travel internationally is a separate issue from removing conditions. You don't need a passport for removing conditions.
