Oh boo. Too late. She's gone. It was a residual Trailmix. :(

haha, no I'm still online, just had to read your name change thread!

We are in Lethbridge. Got here about 6-ish. The cat is not happy at all, although she did settle down a bit from meowing and sticking her paw through the cage thing.

Frankly it's stressing me out because I worry about her - although I know she will be fine, after an hour or two she did have times where I think she was just napping.

We didn't leave Calgary until around 2:30, packing etc etc we still had to do, but I was tired and so we decided to stay here tonight.

Anyhoo, have Wendy's salad to eat!

Long distance travel with felines is always fun. Poor kitty. :crying: I took two cats from El Paso to Toronto, but they were small and they rode on my lap the whole 1700 miles. There was some space in the back of the cube van, so they were able to stretch out a bit. I petted them from time to time and fortunately I wasn't tapped to do any driving. Cats really don't like cages. I'm glad that you're resting up so you can get some serious driving down the Highway 4/I-15 before nightfall. Montana is always fun but at least you're not going across the neverending state. Drive safe and keep in touch.

Ohmygosh, you haven't even left the country yet! And here I was thinking you were somewhere in Montana. Ah, well. Day 2 of your adventures are about to begin, Trailmix. Good luck at the border!!

You know, cats really like small dark places. Instead of cages, they should make comfy cozy caves, with gates on them. I bet they'd like that. Well, maybe not the gate so much. Perhaps they can make invisible gates. They seem to have done so well with invisible helicopters... surely they can make a small gate. :hehe:

Awww sorry for your stressful day trailmix. The cat will be fine. You're not going to be if you're too worried about her!

Even though you got a late start, I'm happy you're finally on your way!

It's raining today, so I won't be at the border waiting for you to cross, sorry.:lol:

Hope Day 2 is a GOOD day!

That is a great idea. I am sure Meowmix will settle down, but I can imagine it is more upsetting for Trailmix to hear her meowing. Once they cross into the US I am sure everyone will settle in. Best of luck in Montana today and look forward to reading your update later.

Thats a late start!! When we travelled from VA to Florida, i went to our vet and got a mild sedative for the cat! Worked like a charm!! Didnt fully knock her out, she made her doppy! She actually sat and my wifes lap for most of the trip!! Hope it goes well

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! We read last night that a quarter of a children's gravol might be good. Also there is a petcetera about 2 mins from the hotel and my Husband is going to go over there in a few minutes and talk to them.

And yes, the trailmix will be gravolled as well!!

Well, I just typed all this brilliant stuff then hit back by mistake or something!

Anyway, we are in Lewiston, Montana right now - yes, they let all of us across the border!

First of all, my Husband went to Petcetera this morning and talked to the receptionist there and she recommended a spray called Feliway - it's a pheromone spray and it works really really well! You just spray like 1 spray where the cat will be and it makes them feel comfortable there!

So we left Lethbridge around 11 - went straight to Tim Hortons as I wanted to buy a travel mug, which we did and had a bagel as well.

Lethbridge is about an hour from the border at Coutts/Sweetgrass. There wasn't much of a line, maybe 5 cars, which was great, the line coming in to Canada was huge!

So we pull up, tell the border person that my Husband is activating his IR1 visa, she asks us if we have a pet with us, we say yes, our cat, she then asks us for the sealed envelope and tells us to pull around and come in.

My Husband had to do a fingerprint on two sides of a paper and sign it and that was about all he had to do, the rest was them taking care of the paperwork. Took about 45 minutes, not bad at all.

We did have to import our car today, he told us we had to. I had the compliance letter, so went out to the car to get it. He didn't comment on the running lights, in fact he read the letter from Ford and said 'Ford should know better than that'.

(So room service just came to the door to tell us they didn't have what my Husband ordered, so I picked up the cat and she clawed my arm - buy anyhoo)

So had to fill out two forms for the car and that was that!

Well, I am pretty tired, has anyone else driven through Montana? There is not much here.

Hopefully food will be here soon, I'm hungry - ordered the French Dip and i'm drinking a coke and yes, it does taste different.

Feliway is good stuff - and it is cheaper to buy on line than in the pet stores - and cheaper in the States than in Canada. I use the air dispenser plug in style here regularly - it helps when someone starts to feel territorial and sees outside cats wandering around the yard. I tried to get Feliway when I moved with my 6 cats from Chatham, Ontario (near Detroit) to Atlanta but they didn't have it available in Canada yet. You can get the plug ins and put it in place in your new home and it will help Meowmix settle into her new home more easily. You can get the best deals at Amazon or through http://www.petguys.com.

I also noticed that when we were driving on the Interstate whenever a big transport went by us the cats would sort of 'sink' or 'cringe' into the corners of their carriers, so I covered each carrier with a towel so that they wouldn't see the truck shadows passing. That helped. We would take regular stops to allow them out individually to sort of stretch, try the litter box, have a drink, etc. I alternated letting them ride on my lap for short spaces but that wasn't always a good idea as they found the passing scenery disturbing. Regardless, one of them didn't stop meowing the whole way. He just sort of got into a meow, breathe, meow, breathe, meow, breathe routine. I hope Meowmix becomes a comfortably seasoned traveller very soon. Happy trails!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
