I have finally received the packet 3 along with the case number… I am bit confused now…as the document clearly stats to mail back teh cover letter along with the form DS.230 Part 1 to the address mentioned in the packet…..

My question… When should I be sending the 864 forms?????

What should I send right now????

Hey Sahana!

Congrats on getting your case number! Which consulate are you with? (There are slight differences between them I think.) For us, packet 3 materials that need to be returned were simply the completed DS 230 - part I (signed), and part II (unsigned) and the DS 2001 "Applicant Readiness Form". Once you return that, your consulate will schedule the interview, often posted on their website by the 10-15th of one month for the following month. (For us, we returned Packet 3 by Blue Dart couriers on the 25th of Feb., and our interview is April 3rd.) Depending upon how fast you return the Packet 3 docs (and your consulate), you could have your interview in May!

Make sure that you have gathered all those other documents required for Packet 4 - things like the I-864 and supporting docs, police certs, birth certificates, etc., etc. or are really close to having them - our PCC took 5 weeks! Once you know your interview date, you take all those docs to the VFS office 15-10 WORKING days in advance of the interview with the passport (NOT just the copies of the passport pages, we discovered that the hard way as they needed to put some kind of bar code on the actual passport at VFS, and would NOT let us submit everything else without it!)

For the Medical, we have to have the actual interview letter to see the doctor, that you will have to wait for until you get the yellow interview letter in your hands.

You are on your way!!! Congrats!!! :) :)

Thank you so much for your promot response.. I just read the letter this weekend, and realise what a mistake I had done.. I was waiting for my brother to fill out the 864 forms as was under the imperssion that 864 needs to be mailed out as a packet 3....

So bascially just submit those two forms now, and 15 days prior to the interview submit all original documents asked in the covering letter (photos, marriage certificate, 864, passport) to VFS...

to answer your question, its Mumbai,.... I have called them several time, but am not able to get through.... I hope Vish can revert, as his was the same..

Thanx for your help

Hey Sahana,

I am not sure how good Mumbai is about responding to emails, but Chennai is fast - sometimes same day responses! Put your case number in the subject line and send it to the Mumbai Immigrant Visa email address with your questions - they may get back to you faster that way. (We learned our actual interview date that way on the 4th of March while the dates were not posted on the website until the 13th, and we got the interview letter around the 18th. :)

Sounds good (according to Chennai standards anyway!). We used Blue Dart to courier it to the consulate - VFS not required at this stage! (Unless you are in Mumbai, then you might be able to take it to the consulate!) Give them a week to 10 days, then email/phone to ask for the interview date! If they don't get back to you, they should post by mid-April for the May interview dates! :)

Make sure you have all those other documents ready - I-864, police certs, birth cert, etc. if you haven't already.

WOO HOO, you are on your way!!!

I would say get on those RIGHT AWAY! Ritesh took 2 weeks for his local police cert, and 5 weeks for his PCC. (Granted, there were extenuating circumstances, but it is always good to feel that you are DONE with all the documentation!) We really cut it down to the wire getting those, and almost missed the VFS deadline for getting everything in.

Thank you so much for your information... just wanted to confirm that I have to send for my spouse only and not mine... hope all will work out.. I think the gap between sending oacket 3.5 and the intial interview is about 2months (per vish).... hope less time...

we already have requested for the cert for my spouse only...

If you are a USC, you will not need police certs. This is only for the intending immigrant. :)

Hi guys,

I'm in same boat as you guys.

Married Dec 4th 2007

Filed I-130 @ Delhi on Feb 19th 2008

Don't know when our lawyer sent out DS forms

We were issued a case number on March 3rd or 4th 2008 (from the case number)

Our letter with our case number was lost in post and emails - calls to Mumbai consulate went unanswered.

April 8th 2008 Wife visited the Mumbai consulate office to inquire and she received the letter on the spot.

Waiting for the appointment letter.

Yuppie..

We have our interview date all set..

Well not officially.. We have yet not received the mail yet, but I called up the embassy and gave them the needed information and got the interview date:

June 12, 2008 is D day for us.. We both will be travelling to Mumbai with following things:

Passport (Mine & His)

Birth Certificate

Marriage Certificate

Police Clearance (His, only from Passport office as the passort issued this month only)

Proof of Marriage (Pictures(engagement, wedding, honeymoon, travel, family gathering), Phone Bills, Bank Statements) anything else I can take?

I-864 (mine)

I-864A (dad)

Our Assets Information (Bank Balance, Property, Insurance, Jewellery)

DS-230 Part I and Parth II (we had already mailed this, but taking a copy with us, just in case)

Medical Report (we have yet not received the appointment letter, hence pending the same)

let me know if I am missing something..

At same time, we had paid about $350 when we filled for the visa, I believe their has to be one more fee which has to be made of $350 - - - - can we make the cash in rupees just like we did before or we have to take the demand draft?
