I've looked around here for a while and I can't find something similar to my case.

I have my green card and it's going to expire in september this year, I'm going to Romania in April.

I camed here with a J1 visa and got married, filled I130, I485, adjustment of status, had my interview in 2006 and got my green card. I will file this year for lifting of conditions.

When I go to Romania I will take with me:

- mine and my husband's driver's licence

-my green card

-copie of the marriage licence

-my romanian ID

I'm not sure if I need to file for Advance Parole so I can return to the USA with no problem.

please reply I'm running out of time

I apologies if this has been posted before.

thank you

You will want to take at:

  • Passport
  • Green Card
  • Marriage License copy (if green card is in different name as passport)
Optional/Can't-Hurt
  • US Driver's License
AP is not needed - your Green Card is all you need to reenter the US. Edited by Karin und Otto

Your greencard is valid until September? And you will go back to Romania this coming April...i don't see any problem of that as long you will come back before your greencard expire (or 90 days before filing your new greencard). Yeah, you can bring with you your marriage certificate if you're not yet carrying your married name to your passport.

Unless you've been able to change the name in your passport, I would agree with the earlier posts recommending you take your marriage certificate as well. (Possibly with a certified Romanian translation as well - although I expect Romanian immigration officers are used to seeing that type of document in English.) Having all three items should make sure there's no excuse for any immigration staff giving you any grief at either airport. :)

Have a great time.
