hello friends, same question asked by one of our indian friend but i not abel to find answer.pls help

I've done searches in the archives, but I'm a little confused and I'm hoping someone can help me out. I need clarification and/or confirmation of the following (because I'm confused about a lot of things!):

1. Once the Embassy gets your file from NVC, can you just print out the DS-230 form from the online link and submit it to the embassy before you get your Packet 3? (in order to get a quicker interview date)

2. If you can do that, is there some number that the Embassy assigns to your file that you have to wait to get (or can call them and get) that must be put on the DS-230?

3. If you send the DS-230 earlier, do you then later submit what's in the Packet 3 checklist to VFS office? (and do you include a copy of the DS-230 you already sent in?)

4. What's the Packet 3 checklist? New Delhi Embassy doesn't seem to say explicitly. It appears the information is mentioned in the Packet 4 page, but I don't want to miss anything and am wondering if there's just a list of what's in Packet 3 somewhere. (Is the medical a part of Packet 3 or 4? Is the police certificate part of Packet 3 or 4?)

5. Is the timeline that once you submit Packet 3 information, then you get Packet 4 information telling you when the interview is and what you should bring to the interview?

6. If the medical and the police certificates are a part of Packet 3, any worries about sending in DS-230 before you get Packet 3 because your interview gets scheduled before those items are done and maybe those items might take more time to do (I have no idea how long they take to do)?

I know there are a lot of questions, but I'm getting cross-eyes (and brained) reading everything and trying to figure out what happens and what we need to do. Thanks to anyone who can help in advance!

HI laurarajesh,

I'll try & answer ur questions as much as I know:

1. Yes, you can print DS 230 from embassy's website & submit. But, call the Dept. Of State and be certain that the embassy has case. Also check the embassy website for any other docs they require w/ DS 230. (We submitted applicant stmt. & some other things).

2. Embassy does not assign any specific #s. Use the case # that the NVC assigns. (We are going through Mumbai, so our # starts w/ "BMB.") The # assigned by NVC is now ur reference.

3. Yes, after u submit DS 230, u submit the remaining docs from checklist & Yes, you can submit them at the VFS Office. Delhi & Mumbai both allow this...But, you have to wait for your interview date to be set by embassy before you can submit.

4. Medical & PCCs are Packet 4 (To be submitted @ VFS after receipt of Interview date). I don't know about Delhi's Packet 3, but in Mumbai we submitted DS 230, Applicant stmt., Passport copy (Notorized), & passport sized photos directly at counter. I can't imagine that the embassies' requirements are too much different from each other.

5. Yes, that is the timeline. Our interview date was set one day after after Packet 3 was "received" by Mumbai in their system. (Take a peak @ my timeline).

6. The medical is about 2-4 day process. The PCCs takes longer. Matter of fact, you need your interview letter (rec. in Packet 4) to take the medical. You also need proof of interview or something from embassy for the PCC. (Our PCC procedures may be different if 2 different Indian states are in question). By the way, they are NOT part of Pkt. 3. They are to be submitted to VFS office after your date is set.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have more questions. :)

I am going thru' Mumbai too. Packet 3 was mailed on March 18,2008, but I never got it. My cousin in Mumbai picked it up for me this morning. Is packet 3 customized for every applicant? I hope not. That is my biggest worry. let me know. Thanks.

We did not receive our packet 3 either. We downloaded it off the consulate web site, and are mailing it to them. The packet is not customized for individual applicants -- confirmed it.

Yes, We didn't receive Packet 3 or Packet 4 either. The info. is definately not customized. They are forms you can simply download off the embassy website. The only thing customized is your interview/appointment letter in Packet 4. However, that letter can be obtained in person at the information counter in Mumbai.

I do recommend to stay on top of them at the Mumbai Embassy by calling the Dept. Of State for case status. They lost our packet & delayed things somewhat.

When you suggest to call Dept. of State for case status, you mean the consulate abroad, don't you? Or are you referring to NVC? The reason I ask is my wife has to call like 10-15 times before she is able to talk to someone at consulate, and I am wondering if there is any easier way. Thanks!!

I have experienced that too. SOmetimes I am really patient. I call over and over until I can get someone on phone. I called today as well, but had no luck. Everytime I called, a recording said goodbye. lol. HAs any of you got the medicals done from Breach Candy Hospital? Do I need a prior appointment or walk-ins are welcome? Is it possible to pick up all reports on the same day? Thanks.

HI Shreyans/Sweety10,

Calling the embassy (consulate abroad) is useless. The wait times are impossible. Call the Dept. of State @ 202-663-1225, then dial Option 1 for visa services, & then 0 to speak to a specialist. The reps @ the D.O.State can help you with your case status. This is ALOT easier then calling the embassy. By case status I mean whether your Packet 3 has been received, Interview date been set, if the case has been transferred from NVC to embassy, date packet 3/4 sent, etc. They cannot provide info. specific in nature for each embassy, but they can provide current case status. I was able to find out my interview 3 days after it was set & Packet 4 was sent.....

By the way, D.O.S does have long wait times sometimes as well, but they don't hang up on you & you will surely get a rep to speak to....They do try to help as much as they can. The longest I have waited is 15 min.

Hope this helps. :)

Wow, I can't thank you enough!! Where did you get this phone number and find out this option? I wish I had found this earlier. Figuring out packet 3, packet 4, and interview date is all I care about, so I do not think I will have to call the consulate again. Thanks again!

Thanks!! Yes, the process has indeed been very frustrating. When I had talked to NVC before, they insisted that all further communication has to be with the consulate. I am not sure why they did not provide this contact information.

In any case, I called the Dept. of State to check on the status today, and they gave very conflicting information. Consulate had told us that they had sent us packet 3 and we should have received it a few days ago (which we still haven't), but the Dept. of State rep. insisted that the consulate has done nothing with my case -- not even sent packet 3. I double-checked it twice. Thus, either the consulate has not really sent the packet 3 though they said they have, which might explain why a lot of people complain about never receiving it and having to go pick it up. Or the Dept. of State data is more than a week old. Either way, this is really confusing, and I am not sure what to make out of it. :bonk:

Thanks for your help though! Good luck to you! Your case seems to be all set!
