Packet 3 checklist

Packet 3 arrived today :D

Is it true that the embassy won't issue an interview date until they receive the checklist? So, could I send in all the packet 3 forms, have the medical and hold onto the checklist a bit longer to delay the interview (as I'm still tied to a work contract for a few months).

I thought about not sending all the forms back yet, but I want to get them out of the way!

Has anyone been issued an interview date without sending back the checklist? I have read the packet, but am interested in personal experiences!

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help! :D

Just send a cover letter with P3 explaining that you don't want an interview until whatever date. They will schedule around your needs. That way they'll automatically extend your NOA2. You'll just need a new letter of intent from your fiance.

The checklist is form DS-2001(Notification of Applicant(s) Readiness). See step 2 on the following London Embassy page: http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

It's not exactly a checklist though, but you get used to all these confusing terms.

Can i just ask what is the checklist?

I am about to send off packet 3 but i don't see any checklist!?

Sometimes you will read UK postings saying to send in your check list. That’s from an earlier time when London had an actual list (3 pages) that you ticked off the items you had in hand to let them know you were ready to interview. Now the form is DS-2001 and it serves the same purpose, but you don’t put check marks on it.

I just remembered I have scans of the whole nineteen-page paper P3 London used to mail out. It really was a packet and looked as bad as these scans (terrible photocopies). The checklist is photos 3,4,5 and if you enlarge the photos, you can see little tick boxes in front of the items. https://picasaweb.google.com/NichandNick/LondonP3?authkey=Gv1sRgCKrtgIfVw9-wAw&feat=directlink

People used to print my scans to send back instead of waiting for the paper packet. We've always been in a hurry and looking for shortcuts.

To the OP Jok235: You will not get an interview until you're ready (send back the form DS2001). Yes send the initial four application forms so London knows you're not abandoning your case. That way you are "active" and won't need to formally extend your NOA2 or have new letters of intent.

Wait about 3 weeks to send back readiness form. They ask for a cover letter to say when you plan to marry. If you put a date many months in the future, they will likely push your interview back in favor of those marrying sooner. And in that cover letter request an interview after a specific date due to work committments. Write that part in bold so they notice it. (That's what we did.)

You do know that if you sent everything back today you would likely get an interview late July or August. Then you have 6 months before you must enter the US. That would give you until Jan/Feb 2012 to finish up your business in the UK without any stall tactics.

Why not have your interview as soon as possible? That way you will have the peace of mind knowing you've been approved and have the visa in hand. You dont need to use it for 6 months (max) after that. As soon as you physically have the visa you could even look at plane ticket prices. Interview doesn't mean you need to leave the country right away.
