Hello all,

I just recieved my choice of agent form from NVC where it stated that my interview will be held in Montreal although I requested Vancouver. Is there a reason for choosing that consulate and can I get it transferred to the Vancouver consulate where I currently live? I'm still at the beginning stages of the NVC process so I have a couple of months to sort this out, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sarah, I think you'll have to go to Montreal because you're applying for the CR-1.

Vancouver only processes K visas (which is what Mich3 is going for).

As others have said.. Vancouver only processes K visas. All CR-1 visas are processed in Montreal. Sorry, but you're going to have to spring for the trip up there...

I've heard about that happening to other people. Its a nightmare and I don't think you can get it changed to Vancouver. You have to pay all your own expenses too!! That makes me nervous because I put down Vancouver too. :(

I had this happen to me where they sent our K-1 petition to Montreal. When I contacted NVC about the status of our case they said it had left to Montreal. I was confused why they sent it to Montreal when I live in the Vancouver area. After some explaining they came to the conclusion that they made a mistake (I was born in Quebec so they figured that's where it should go) and that they would instruct Montreal to forward it on to Vancouver. It is now over 3 weeks since our petition left from NVC to Montreal and yesterday I got a call from the Vancouver Consulate. When I called them this morning they said they had sent out Packet 3 but it had been sent back to them "return to sender".

Apparently, on the 2nd page of the I-129 we messed up and didn't have my apartment number on my address (we had it right on the 1st page). The good news is she said they are sending it out this afternoon via Canada Post and that I should get it in a few days.

Seems to be one thing after another. Atleast this time if was our fault :)

This must be why that Vancouver has a shorter wait time for K interviews versus Montreal. It makes sense now (not the process just why there is such a wait in Montreal).

My heart goes out to all who are waiting for Montreal.

Exactly.. the reason for the backup in Montreal is due to the new DCF program... Previously, all the paperwork and most of the processing was perfromed by the NVC.. all Montreal had to do was the interview. Now with DCF, Montreal has to do everything for CR-1 visas themselves. So basically, they took on a ton of more work with probably no increase in people...

Thank you everyone for your responses. That is too bad that they can't process the CR1 in Vancouver, I better start saving now!

I would suggest flying with WestJet... they generally offer cheaper flights.... and the La Tour Centre Ville is a half decent hotel to stay in that is really close to the Consulate

Or if you can, see what the cost is to fly from Seattle to Burlington, VT. It's only about an hour from Burlington to Montreal.

Agree... La Tour Centre-Ville is a very decent place to stay and it's across the street from the consulate.

True of all Consular Process GC's (of which CR-1/IR-1 is in VJ's glister; mine, issued Dec 1999 was employment-based).

I remember asking if I could have it done in Calgary, which would have been IDEAL, as I would have had a travel cost of less than $30 (I had enough "mileage" for a free trip inside North America--but crossing the border, the $6 I-94 fee IS NOT waived; rest would have been for bus/C-train fare), as I could have stayed in (what had been till 1994) my own home. Actual travel cost was around $500 ($400 of that for a week at a B&B).

K1 and K3 visa interviews are done in Montreal or Vancouver depending on where you live but I have heard of people getting thier cases transeferred.

Of course, this leaves those in the middle of Canada (Calgary to Winnipeg) S.O.L. on the matter of travel cost.
