My fiancee doesn't speak English very well, and definetely doesn't know how to write in English.

I am bilingual, read/write/speak, do backflips while conjugating verbs in Spanish LMAO

I'm a Spanish teacher in training, what can I say? LOL

Should his letter of intent be in English or Spanish? And what about mine? If I have him write his in Spanish (which is the complete ethical thing to do because it should come from him) do I have to have it translated for the Peruvian consulate? estoy confundida.

Well, I know everything you submit the whole rest of the time you're doing this needs to be translated into english. Now, whether or not you should also include your fiance's original letter in Spanish I don't know for sure. I'm pretty sure you don't need to include this at all, but it's my opinion that putting in extra stuff in the petition doesn't hurt your case at all, makes you look more honest, covers all bases to avoid RFEs, etc. But if you do include the spanish one too, I'd let them know on it, "this is my fiance's letter in Spanish," whatever.

When it comes to translating, I read yesterday that someone else when they had to get things translated went to the local english/spanish professors at the local college. I thought this sounded like a good idea - I guess I'd have the professor sign whatever he/she translated and this way it'd all be more objective.

The EASIEST way though is, if you're seeing your fiance soon or with him just now, to send in one jointly written letter in english. You both write one letter and sign the same one to send in. You can explain what it says to him before he signs it, of course.

Don't forget to make multiple copies with original signatures for later

I wrote mine in English and he wrote his in Spanish.I sent him a translation.

I wrote both mine and my fiance in english and each of us sign one and had it certified by a Notary Public. His was certified in his country of course once I had sent it to him.

Both letter have to be in English as well as other documents, that´s why they request to have the foreign birth certificate translated. You can type the letter for her, email it and she can print and sign it.

Do you can imagine an adjudicator reading a letter in Spanish when she/he is not a bilingual person?

The initial application materials that you send to the Service Center should be in English. I just wrote the intent letters in English and had my fiancée sign his. This is probably the easiest way to go.

[if you/he feel(s) more comfortable, you can write the letter in Spanish for him and then translate it. If your Spanish is good enough, you can write a "I'm translation capable" letter, sign it and have it notarized. Have him sign both the Spanish/English versions though if you're going to do this. You don't need to include the birth certificate with the I-129F application; so no need to worry about translations for that. When you have your interview in Lima, the items can be in either language (Spanish or English). For the interview in Lima, anything can be in Spanish, so your life will be easier in that respect.

I just typed them in english and then Isa read it as best she could and I translated it to her and then she signed it when I was down to see her and it all worked out. I believe it does need to be in English, Good Luck.
