i am wondering that if i ask my fioncee's mother/ father or friend to sponsor me ! what they are actually required to do for me! and what is needed by them for the time i am sponsored by them!

also does it affect them in any way when filing taxes or any thing like that ! or is it just they go by their everyday life as if nothing has actually change( ie they have sponsored me)

i am really worried about this subject because my gf makes around $18,000 with no assets to help her income! and she has a house hold of 3 but with me it becomes 4! so she needs to make around $26,000

so does her income and the sponsors need to make the $26,000 or just the sponsor has to make $26,000

or is it just the amount the of the household the sponsor lives in!!

any help would be grate!

sorry if this message has no punctuation i was in a hurry writing it :(

You will be fine if the co-signer can meet the poverty guidelines for the given number in the household. The only way they would be truly affected is if that individual they co-signed for was going to become a public charge. Meaning the government would have use our tax dollars to support them, the by law the co-signer must be the supporter if the petitioner is unable to do so. Make sure that you don't get sick or badly injured making it impossible for you to work because it might be damaging to your relationship with the co-signer.

The joint sponsor must meet the guidlines for their own household plus the intending immigrant. Your fiancee and her children would only be included in that number if they were in the same household as the sponsor.

The Co-Sponsor would be required to pay for those types of expenses if you were not able too yourself.

When we talk about "household" number- does that include non-dependents living in the house? My mother will be co-sponsoring my fiance- So, it's my parents, me, and my two brothers + my fiance = 6 people. However, my older brother is not dependent on my parents, so he would not be included in the household number. Am I correct in thinking that??

Also, as long as this is a topic about Co-sponsors... My parents together make enough to sponsor my fiance, but I'm not sure that my mother alone or my father alone makes over the poverty rate for the whole household. So- my question is: Can BOTH my parents co-sponsor him? Or how would that work?

Thank you SO much for your help!

Caity
