Does anyone have comments... suggestions about preparing for Akram to Fly from Cairo? Is there one POE airport that is better than another?

no any place you enter through for the first time is called the POE, whether it is O'Hare or in NY or Florida.

Check out orbitz.com or a good airlines you like and used to go there and get it booked.

I tell you that San Francisco was WONDERFUL to come through compared to New York.

JFK last April was sooooooooooo confusing as to where to go. They were doing construction too, but I thought to myself, this would be so hard for Ahmed to follow the directions.

I flew into San Francisco direct from France and it was wonderful!!! So easy, all new computers, super nice people.........

but I bet you won't be coming this far west..........

Actually, I think SF is a great POE. and it is just a short flight up here to Idaho.

If you want the temp EAD, JFK is the only airport issuing it.... otherwise I would avoid that airport if possible.

Although, EgyptAir does fly direct to JFK though and no layover in Europe. That way he's in the US while waiting on that transfer - much easier on you

He can get the temporary work authorization (EAD) only at JFK.

Egyptair direct from Cairo to JFK seems to be the cheapest and easiest. We went that route with no problems.

EAD is the work authorization.

wait...this EAD...is it only for certain visas...if my hubby is planning to come and has a CR-1 visa...does he still need to obtain the EAD or what? any info would be appreciated! thanks!

Your husband will not need an EAD. He will receive his GC shortly after arrival so no need for a work authorization. He can work with his GC. Lucky you!

No if I understand it correctly you don't have to do anything and his greencard should just arrive in the mail shortly after his arrival. Maybe when he hits the POE and they enter in his arrival it triggers the card to be produced or something I 'm not sure but you are in the BEST situation of all because you don't have to deal wtih EAD or AOS since you already did all that!!!!

For me, I'm a K-3 so he will send in the EAD application once he's here and then once he's working and saves up the $$$ he'll apply for AOS. Luckily VSC is averaging around 30 days or less for EAD so we're pretty excited about that!

I didn't want him going through JFK only because it would mean he'd be here at 11pm or so instead of 3pm. lol. I know it won't matter much later on but right now every second counts! Plus I like that he'll be arriving in Boston for the POE.
