05/10/08 - US entry through JFK

05/14/08 - Married

08/05/08 - Received transfer letter

08/07/08 - Biometric appointment

09/09/08 - EAD approved

09/17/08 - Received EAD

The actual answer is going to depend somewhat on the airport. The lines aren't always segregated the same way.

Many airports will have a "traffic cop" helping direct people into the lines. If there is such a person, ask and follow the instructions given. The direction of an officer who is there always takes precedence over any general advice you get on this forum.

Usually, the lines are segregated as "visitors" and "US Citizens and permanent residents". A person with a K-1 visa is neither a citizen nor a permanent resident, at least not yet. Since they have a non-immigrant visa they should go through the visitors line if that's how they're segregated. Regardless, the K-1 visa holder will probably be sent off into secondary inspection for awhile anyway.

Don't stress out about the "which line" decision too much. The worst possible consequence of making the wrong decision is that they'll tell you to go wait in the other line.

04 Apr, 2004: Got married

05 Apr, 2004: I-130 Sent to CSC

13 Apr, 2004: I-130 NOA 1

19 Apr, 2004: I-129F Sent to MSC

29 Apr, 2004: I-129F NOA 1

13 Aug, 2004: I-130 Approved by CSC

28 Dec, 2004: I-130 Case Complete at NVC

18 Jan, 2005: Got the visa approved in Caracas

22 Jan, 2005: Flew home together! CCS->MIA->SFO

25 May, 2005: I-129F finally approved! We won't pursue it.

8 June, 2006: Our baby girl is born!

24 Oct, 2006: Window for filing I-751 opens

25 Oct, 2006: I-751 mailed to CSC

18 Nov, 2006: I-751 NOA1 received from CSC

30 Nov, 2006: I-751 Biometrics taken

05 Apr, 2007: I-751 approved, card production ordered

23 Jan, 2008: N-400 sent to CSC via certified mail

19 Feb, 2008: N-400 Biometrics taken

27 Mar, 2008: Naturalization interview notice received (NOA2 for N-400)

30 May, 2008: Naturalization interview, passed the test!

17 June, 2008: Naturalization oath notice mailed

15 July, 2008: Naturalization oath ceremony!

16 July, 2008: Registered to vote and applied for US passport

26 July, 2008: US Passport arrived.

I don't think it's a really big deal to be honest with you, but take someone elses advice if they tell you otherwise.

I will be travelling with my wife (a non-US Citizen) and my son (a US Citizen) up to the states thiand I plan on going all together at the same time in the U.S. Line.

Timeline:

02/04/2004 - A young Zinker arrives in Mexico to study Spanish and the dating game begins

2004--2005 - Many subsequent visits to Mx ensue to be with my love; engaged in March 2005!

04/??/2005 - I-129F is filed from within the US

06/09/2005 - Zinker moves to Mexico

09/??/2005 - I-129F is approved

10/15/2005 - Interview in Cd. Juarez and subsequently approved for a K1 Visa!..But visa is left in Juarez

10/17/2005 - Due to unexpected pregnancy and a job offer in Mx - we decide not to pursue the visa and it expires :(

01/04/2006 - Married in Mexico

10/09/2011 - Two children later and a comfortable life in Mexico... Preparing to file I-130 in December 2011. Stay Tuned!

I always take the shortest line - regardless of whether it says US citizen or visitor - Yes, I travel with my wife who is an LPR currently. Don't worry about this, there's bigger stuff to give you ulcers - :lol: - naah - its not too bad really. Good Luck
