hi everyone.. well habibi booked his flight already... i didn't even know until i talked to him this morning.. oh well.. he will be here on april 8th to jfk... then to me... yaaaaaaaaaayyyy.. do you guys know that the people at egyptair told him he has to have vacinnations... i don't get it :wacko: .. they said he couldn't leave until he got them.. but i thought when he did the medical check this was done... also he said that the people at cairo airport are very mean and try to cause problems... anybody that recently received your visa had that problem.. also was told that someone booked a one way ticket and was told they couldn't enter the u s at their destination... i was like omg... i think that stinks to high heaven.. so guys what is really going on ... give me your experiences.. he's never flown before and i want his experience to be an enjoyable one.. thanks people.... oneder

I have read all about this and here is the scoop. If you are K-1, you do not need the vaccinations NOW. You can get

them later in the US when you apply for AOS. I told Ahmed to go ahead and get them in Egypt because it

is probably cheaper there. The physician kept his medical form and put it in an envelope.....that is the I-693 I think.

The supplement form I-693A is the vaccination sheet.

If it is within a year of getting the medical exam when you apply for AOS, then you don't have to get another medical exam, just give them a copy of the I-693A. Ahmed has a copy of that from the doctor.

SO once again, you do not need vaccinations until you get here and apply for AOS.

BUT if you want to be ahead of the game, then get them in Egypt and ask for a copy of that vaccination record.

The shots made Ahmed sick for a couple of days..........probably the tetanus-diphtheria vaccine.

I think the airport guys don't know what the heck they are talking about.

Personally from what I have seen, I would avoid flying out on Egypt Air and go Air France or Lufthansa........

there seems to be no problems with those. It's Egypt Air and the red tape and lack of knowledge.

Someone on here bought a one way on expedia and had no problem with K-1.

It depends on what airline and who is checking you in.............that's the problem.

Haven't ever heard of anyone ever being turned away in the US at the point of entry.

i talked to habibi and he said they told him before his medical that he didn't have to have the vaccines so he didn't get them... and now the airport won't let him fly without them.. yea i think they will be cheaper there than here... so how much does it cost for vaccinations.. he's leaving on april 8th and he didn't even know this was needed.. thanks

Melody, what airline did he use?

All vaccinations are in the sealed envelope which is opened at POE. No other medical info is necessary.

You will need the vaccinations anyway when you get here, and it's difficult bc the docs always seem to want to do the full medical over again (since they know it's for imigration - you have to have a supplimental for filled out). It's much cheaper to just get it done there, and make sure he has copies of his vaccination record. Then when you get here you just have to have one of the docs fill out the supplement sheet for you and turn in a copy of the records.

I never actually submitted the supplimental form, just a photocopy of his vaccination records done by a gov. approved doc in Egypt. It's considered risky to do that, but we flew through the AOS process w/ no problems.

We had no problems flying EgyptAir, but we got the round-trip ticket just in case because someone mentioned that scenario of getting turned back here somewhere in this forum a LONG time ago (I don't remember when, the summer I think...and I think THAT thread was referring to an even older thread from the summer of 2006!).

Divorced. To hell with him.

maybe it depends on the airline. My husband is flying Alitalia inshallah and they said he just needs his passport with the visa and the unopened envelope to show at the POE which will be Boston :dance::dance:

According to the administrative offices at Cairo Airport:

1. Each airline is responsible for the return of any non immigrant or immigrant that is turned away at the POE....So, its standard proceedure to have the non immigrant purchase a round trip ticket. It is up to each airline however if somone comes with a one way ticket as to weather they will allow that person to proceed.

2. No vaccination records were requested at the airport for my SO. He only took his military permission letter, passport, eticket papers showing round trip (he flew egypt air and was required to purchase this).

3. He had no trouble with passport control in Cairo in any way. Was very easy and fast.

Some suggestions:

Since we wanted Egypt Air he had to fly into JFK. Some things we did to make the trip comfy and easier:

1. He has unlocked cell, so I purchased a cigular go card (no phone needed if u buy 25 dollar card with number) and sent to him in advance. When he lands in usa, he can now call me from plane...and as soon as he exits the immigration area, just as back up...(standing there 2 hours would be a bit hard..this frees you up to a bit and no worries of having to look for each other) I used it first in my phone to ring and sms him to ensure it worked then saved numbers he will need AS it is dialed from HERE on the SIM card.

Dont forget, its different to call your cell/home from the usa..and it may be a bit confusing at first to try to figure it out...I also programed his HOME phone as I dial it from here...so he can call home immediately and not have to ask me for help in any way...Just a suggestion.

2. I packed a new shirt, underwear, undershirt and toiletries since we will stay in Newark overnight and drive back to virginia...this was less he had to take onboard...

3. He minimized his carry on baggage to help him get to immigration a bit faster...just making it easier to move around.

4. We booked his seat in front part of plane...earlier off, faster to line...faster into my arms...:dance:

5. I bought 2 red balloons...(back up, back up, back up) this way he can find me to.

6. Do a search online for flight trackers, there are several you can use to track the flight via a satellite system and u can watch the progress of the flight online..sort of cool..but only works when they get closer to the USA boarders...still cool....

Just some suggestions...things we did to make us both a bit more comfy and stay in touch...

Good luck...

that may well be because they have one last hurdle to jump - the poe - where they can be refused entry by cbp.

Exactly...I figured thats why the round trip ticket...but didnt realize it was the AIRLINES responsibility to make sure they get back if denied...so each airline is different..so cairo airport says the blanket operating proceedure is to have round trip...for any visas. Im sure the ONLY reason for POE denial would be for fraud or something HUGE. But the responsibility is intially put on the airlines to be SURE the immigrant has all the proper and supporting documentation needed. POE is a mini interview. They review the papers (which are ALL the formal forms signed and used in the initial immigration petition and from the embassy including medical report), and if they also have quesitons, they will ask...even then..IF they dont believe the validity of anything the immigrant CAN be turned back....its the final process to overcome and until our loved ones are standing in front of us...there are NO guarantees..... But Thank God its very rare for someone to be turned back...to much happens before that point to ensure they ARE eligible and valid....

So do you really have to have a round trip ticket or not??? That is confusing to me. We don't want anything to go wrong, and certainly want to be prepared if something happens at JFK. What do you think?? ohhh, NM, I just reread it. We will take the chance and get a one way!!! Live on the edge lol

Bridget... tell your husband Good Luck at the Rome airport :( ...they gave my husband a hard time and lost his luggage (which luckily was found eventually) :) but I hope he has better luck than my husband did :)

my hubby...(for those of you wondering about one way or roundtrip)... got a one way ticket using Alitalia...I dunno if the airline company you use makes a difference...but he had no issues with the roundtrip thing at all...:)

and also... my husbands POE was JFK...it was pain free (he had to wait about one hour though and ended up missing his flight, but he got on the next flight to Richmond el hamdulillah) :D the officer took his envelope...opened it...smiled at my husband and said "Welcome to a lifetime of opportunities if you make the best of it...welcome to America and enjoy"...shook his hand and smiled :) haha...hopefully everyone else has an easy time :)

hopefully everyone else has a pain free journey :) GOOD LUCK! :D
