WHAT IS ASPERGER'S?

Asperger's syndrome is a developmental disorder that is part of the autism spectrum. Signs and symptoms of Asperger's syndrome include:

*Engaging in one-sided, long-winded conversations, without noticing if the listener is listening or trying to change the subject

*Displaying unusual nonverbal communication, such as lack of eye contact, few facial expressions, or awkward body postures and gestures

*Showing an intense obsession with one or two specific, narrow subjects, such as baseball statistics, train schedules, weather or snakes

*Appearing not to understand, empathize with, or be sensitive to others' feelings

*Having a hard time "reading" other people or understanding humor

*Speaking in a voice that is monotonous, rigid or unusually fast

*Moving clumsily, with poor coordination

*Having an odd posture or a rigid gait

Brother Dean, I didn't know that you knew my ex-boyfriend so well, you can even describe his characteristics. Were you friends?

JUST KIDDING! :luv:

lol sister mae, they can tell you, on their favorite topic..ex: train schedules ...baseball stats..relgious facts and quote bible quotes ad naseum./....

their topic and task is vital and really, the importance and personal identification they feel in their lives...everything , including love ones, are secondary...

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

LOL.

I had to get Wes to tell me what a 'cardie' is.

How you feeling, Steve?

Pretty good, thanks. I started the TB treatment this morning and had my last beer yesterday evening. Like my clients, I can now use the "I have been sober since.." line.

Empathy is a powerful thing....... :P

Hope you get along allright with this. We're in your corner.

Thanks!

I think it's gonna be sort of interesting. Tho I'm not a heavy drinker, I haven't really spent a great length of time without alcohol since I was maybe 16. I've been trying to think of what I'll drink in social situations, as I'm not a soda drinker. Water? (If I can get the wait staff to understand me. One of the simplest elements in the universe and yet no one understands it when I say it. My proper Southern Counties accent turns it into "Wor-tah".)

...with a twist of lemon.

Ha ha. Yup, I have the same problem.

"What would you like to drink tonight?" says the server.

"Oh, just some iced water," says I.

"Huh?"

"War-ter." says I, "runny stuff; comes out of faucets."

"Oh, wader!" says the server, little light dinging over her/his head.

I think most British people have that problem - and I'm not entirely sure why, as what else can you confuse 'water' with? I'd have thought that even if it did sound a little strange you'd be able to guess.

A lot of these conditions share similarities - not being able to empathise with or understand people's feelings is also a symptom of sociopathy, isn't it?

a different variables are involved ..the asperie has a conscious and does not victimize others...also, the reason for the lack of empathy to an extent, is the narrow mindness task orientation of their disorder..

Interesting condition. In the full spec5rum of pathologies, Asperger's syndrome does not sound too bad.

Because of it's narrow mindness task orientation, it may even have an upside like bestowing resistance to certain social conditions. Having had a first hand experience with a totalitarian setting, an asperie(sic) may have an advantage in resisting totalitarian thought reform or brainwashing in plain terms. Even for those asperies who are not under totalitarian regimes they may benefit by being less vulnerable to cultish practices which include some of the following:

milieu control...which is an essential and basic element of a thought control environment where all memebers are encouraged to think alike and outsiders who strayed into the environment with views discordant to the group think are shouted down or elbowed out...

mystic manipulation is the logical next step to milieu control. Through various means of manuipulation, the memebers are made to feel that they are the agents "chosen" (by history, by God, or by some other supernatural force) to carry out the "mystical imperative."

loaded language.

The language of thought reformists is characterized by the thought-terminating cliché like you must be a retard or an asperie if you think this way since you are not in harmony with our group think.

These are but some of the aspects of thought reform which comes to mind when I read about asperie(sic). BTW asperie sounds Turkish to me. :D

Glad the water issue isn't just me, then.

Is sparkling water an acceptable drink for a macho man about town? My male friends used to question my occasional flirtations with gin & tonic. Comfortable tho I am with my robust sexuality, I don't plan to go out of my way to have the piss taken every time I enter a high-testosterone Brew City bar.
