which comes first the SS card or the green card?

i've been waiting for 3 weeks now for my SS card to arrive, imagine my surprise when what i got on the mail today was my 2 year green card ... would you guys suggest i go visit my local SSA to file a new application, or should i wait a few weeks more?

Yes I would go to your local SSA office and complete the SSA5 form to get your SSN....

Yep, i would head down to ur local SSN office and say " whats up?""" Thats what I had to do!! take ur greencard and passport for ID. I believe they wanted to see two pieces of ID (not saying that is the norm!!)

Most people don't get their SS card automatically even if the checked the box in the DS-230. We also ended up going to the SSA office to get our card.

I got my green card first also. I went to the SS Office after 3 weeks as my SS# had not come thorugh. Be warned some of the people are rude and unhelpful - be prepared to argue a little bit. They can tell whether your SS# has been assigned by taking your passport/green card details only. If it hasn't come through I would apply for a new SS card - as its probably been forgotten about. I had to do this as SS where not aware of an application for my SS#.
